Applying through cleaning to study nursing this year
ohmyohmy123 · 26/07/2022 21:43
Hi all, I’m hoping to apply through clearing to do nursing to start September this year.
I work so would need to give 4 weeks notice. Does anyone know how long from application to acceptance so I can gauge how long I need to give notice?
I’m only delaying because I’ve not got a maths gcse so got my equivalency test in a week. I also won’t have the certificate for 2 weeks after that.
My question is am i stupid to rush this and apply this year? Should I wait? I work in a hospital but can’t go higher in my band so want to do this for me.
I’m worried about finance not coming through too as I’ve left that late.

Hi, I don't know the answer to the original Q, but I know clearing runs right up until Oct time so should be plenty time to sit your test etc. Have you applied to UCAS and got your clearing number? You need this first, then to speak to the uni you want to attend and ask them if you have permission to do them as your clearing choice on UCAS. They'll probs ask a few Qs about qualifications etc and will be able to advise on the space on the course x

And no, def worth applying this year. No time like the present! If there's no clearing space this year, then you can apply for the next intake and continue to work and gain experience in the hospital, all of which will help your application 🙂

I don’t think I can apply yet as I don’t actually have the qualification? I might ring them tomorrow but I assumed they’d dismiss me until I’d got the maths.

Give them a phone... I think there can be leeway with things, especially since you're due to sit it. And the fact you have hospital experience should stand you in good stead. There are minimum requirements but there's always exceptions to the rule 🙂 (as far as I'm led to believe!)
A phone call won't hurt and the admissions team will let you know if you're ok to apply or not. They'll keep you right 🙂

You have nothing to lose by applying and they are crying out for nurses. Your hospital experience will count for a lot as well. Good luck, you'll love it.

Phone student finance and ask. I have done this before and they were very helpful. Don't forget you can also apply for the NHS Bursary 😊

You can apply now, same as people who took a-levels and were waiting for the results. They will either be automatically updated when you get your result or you let them know when you get your certificate.
Best of luck for your application to study nursing from a fellow nursing student (2nd year) x

I was rejected as didn't meet the maths. I've done an online maths test twice now and been disqualified for technical issues - I'm sure they just want my money as my internet is fine yet when using their software it freezes etc.
So annoying and my hopes of starting this year are gone really as I don't have time for another test that will enable me to give my work notice for the start date.
Thank you for asking though.
