Low carbing and am freezing

This isn’t new - have low carbed before and been freezing before. It’s not due to losing weight I’m sure - as am still v overweight. Also if I cheat and have some carbs I feel warm again.

So… any suggestions on keeping warm? It’s like an internal cold not really helped by putting on a jumper.

Are you actually in ketosis? My theory for this is that when you eat your normal carb diet your body is confident there is lots of fuel. It happily burns a fair bit keeping you warm. You then low carb and probably eat fewer calories. At this point your body is realising that fuel is limited. Not wanting you to starve your body stops burning those extra calories it previously did keeping you warm.

Theoretically if you are in ketosis and have a lot to lose your body shouldn't worry too much about being short on fuel. There should be plenty of fat to burn. But if you're not in ketosis then it might be waiting for those hits of carbohydrates.

I do understand that feeling of being frozen to the core. Your best bet is exercise. It will warm you up not only while you exercise but for a fair while afterwards.

I'm not really following this. When I am in ketosis my body happy burns fat safe in the knowledge I have really seriously ample stores of fat on board for weeks or months of my energy requirement and that it can burn those stores easily enough so long as I stay low carb to limit the insulin circulating in my bloodstream.

It's when it's burning carbs that it gets angsty about having enough fuel stores and drives me to eat unnecessary carbs.

Keeping warm for me is about fine but very functional thermal underwear and a cup of something hot to drink, 'none broth' and/or coffee/heabsl tea all work well for me.

When you're in ketosis your body knows there is lots of fuel to burn. If op is not in ketosis that won't be happening. If they're eating less because they're dieting then carbs are limited and so the body reduces metabolism to compensate. That reduction in metabolism can mean you feel cold because the body isn't using the carbs it has to generate heat it's using them for other processes. If op keeps eating the carbs because they're cold they might not get into ketosis.

Are you eating low carb/high fat? You need to eat plenty of fat and plenty of protein.
