Low carb post-gallbladder removal- anyone done it?

Hi all,

I had my gallbladder removed in August 2023. The doctor advised that a low carb, high fat diet had probably contributed to the issue and advised not to continue with that way of eating.

The problem is, it seems to suit me. I lost a lot of weight in the run up to surgery because I couldn't eat anything without triggering a flare up but I've put it all back on and am constantly hungry.

Had anyone also had surgery and been fine to continue with low carb?

Being in poor health is a great way to lose weight. Is that your argument in favour?
If this is your way of thinking, go against your GP's advice.

Seriously, why?

You have had gallbladder removed now so can eat what you like.

This worries me a lot because I have gallstones and have had a few attacks but am on a long waiting list to see a consultant who may or may not recommend surgery (I want the thing out)

But I do have a high fat diet, this way of eating suits me, it satisfies me and is good for me health wise (lots of nuts, olive oil, salmon, avocado etc etc)

I havent had an attack for many months, since around about early this year ( was referred to the consultant back last October after being in lots of pain), but am aware of the advice I should be following.

If I have it out I would expect for my diet not to be problematic, I hope.

You can eat this way but you are likely to find you get diarrhea and have to rush to the loo a lot as fat is now not being broken down properly as there is no bile from the gallbladder.
