Too many ketones?

I'm doing keto again after a few months off last year. Started New Years day.

Been doing well, lost 8 pounds. Feeling full of beans.

I bought some keto urine sticks last week. Used one today - it was beyond the darkest purple - pretty much black. I tried 2 sticks just to make sure, both the same.

I got my husband to try just as a test and his was light pink.

I've read a little bit about ketoacidosis.

Should I be worried? I don't really want to stop keto!

Any experts out there who can advise?

Thanks :)

Thanks for this BIWI. I think I need to do a bit more reading. I read a bit more on it last night.

Apparently it fades the longer you are in ketosis - something to do with the way the kidneys excrete ketones in the early weeks.

I'll keep an eye on it.

@Frogdogprincess I cannot get into ketosis - have you got any meal tips?

Sorry - I only just saw you post. My diet consists of:

Meat / fish - never breaded or with starchy sauces.
Eggs.
Fruit - only ever strawberries / raspberries / occasional watermelon.
Salad - lettuce, cucumber, peppers, small amount of onions, sometimes a tomato.
Veg - broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms.
Cheese - always check carb content.
Double cream / coconut oil in coffee - never milk.
Greek yogurt - I have Fage.
Sauces - Avocado mayonnaise, low carb chili sauce or low carb beef stock, creamy cheesy sauces.
Occasionally half a lemon squeezed into sparkling water.

I think that just about covers it but I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Just to add.....creamy cheesy sauces are homemade, never from a packet or jar because they're usually very carby.

Oh yeah...and occasional macadamia nuts, peanuts or hazelnuts.

@Frogdogprincess Can I ask how much you have lost and over what time? Thanks

Frogdogprincess · 02/11/2024 12:12

Sorry - only just read your message.

Overall, I've lost just over a stone and a half since the start of the year.

I've been the same weight now for about 2/3.

I didn't need to lose a huge amount so I'm quite happy with where I'm at now.

sorry - that meant to say 2/3 months.
