I never lose weight in the second week

Has anyone else found this? I’ve done keto (well, a version of keto) a good few times, mainly for health reasons but the weightloss is a nice side effect as I’m a little overweight. I find I drop a load of water weight in the first week but I never lose anything at all in week 2. Everyone says to expect no loss on weeks 3 and 4 but it’s always a standstill in week 2 for me followed by 2 weeks of losing very little, then it settles into a rhythm of around 2lbs per week.

Why don’t I lose in week 2? Everyone else still seems to lose a lot in the second week.

The theory is post induction stall syndrome, you drop a lot of glycogen and water in the first week, your body then just holds onto some water until it finds a new balance.

That’s interesting and hoping you’re right. I always get disheartened in wk 2 even though I know from experience that it picks up properly after 3-4 weeks. Just find it weird that everyone else seems to still be dropping loads in that week.

It might also be that
1st week lose water
2nd week water loss stabilised
3rd and following weeks, you lower your calories out of frustration for not losing in second week

Week 1 - you're losing water weight and using up any glycogen stores in your liver/muscles, maybe a little fat

It's the burning of glycogen (which doesn't happen on a low cal diet) that leads to the greater loss on a low carb/keto diet.

By week 1, you will have used that up, and also lost the water, so you're burning fat. Sounds from your OP that you're not too overweight, so probably don't have much fat to lose.

Weeks 3 onwards, a loss of 1-2lbs a week is perfect.

Given that you know this happens to you in week 2, surely you have the motivation go carry on beyond that week?!
