How much weight loss can I expect?

I started to eat a lot less carbs last Monday and have lost half a stone which I understand is mainly water. How much weight can I expect to lose a week?
I am having a fruit and yogurt smoothie in the morning.
Salad with protein or vegetable omelette for lunch.
Protein and really a lot of veg for dinner.
One highlite Cadbury hot chocolate sachet per day and a low sugar boiled sweet after lunch and dinner.
Drinks are water and herbal/green tea.

It's an impossible question to answer, really, as everyone loses at a different rate, and can tolerate a different level of carbs per day!

What you can expect, though, is the following pattern:

  • week 1 - significant weight loss (as you have already seen). This will be water, emptying your glycogen stores and a little fat
  • week 2 - a good loss, but less than week 1 - starting to lose fat
  • week 3 & 4 (and sometimes even 5) little or no loss, sometimes even a gain, as your body is transitioning into fat burning

... and from week 5 onwards, 1-2lbs a week, which will be fat

That said, if you are very overweight, your weekly loss might be more than that.

Also, be aware that weight loss isn't linear. You may find you have a couple of weeks or so where nothing seems to happen, then you'll have a 'whoosh' and will suddenly drop 3 or 4lbs. The message here is to keep going!

About a lb a week when you have lost the water.
