First week low carb questions

Hi
I'm nearly at the end of my first week low carbing.
Just wondering what to expect with weight loss, how to know if I am in ketosis, how to know if I am eating too many calories? Fat etc.
Just some help. The bootcamp doesn't start for a while

@Rollerbird you can jump on to the current Bootcamp! No need to wait till the next one.

What to expect is a very difficult question - it all depends on where you are right now - how much you weigh, how tall you are, what you were eating before you started low carbing, etc.

First, though, you don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight. Just by cutting your carbs you can lose weight (although obviously it depends how low you go!)

Second, if you're low carbing we don't really count calories. And especially if you're Bootcamping, we don't!

Third, low carb = high fat, so you should be eating a diet that's high in fat, with medium amounts of protein and low in carbs.

How much weight have you lost so far? And what have you been eating - what's a typical day's worth of food for you?

OK so I didn't realise medium protein (been high)
Someone told me to get started quick to have loads of fat at the start and recommended coffee with butter or coconut oil in the morning and said it would cut the appetite too. I didn't like it together but have had a few coffees with cream and skinny syrup (says zero carb) and a big knob of butter on the side
Mid morning today had 3 peperami (other days hard boiled eggs or cheese) Late afternoon today chicken spinach and mozzarella. More of the same around 8pm.
On recommendation a electrolyte /mineral tablet in a pint of water daily. Trying to keep liquid up. Drinking unsweetened almond milk, coffee and fanta zero.
Had steak, asparagus, mushrooms in cream on valentines.
Basically thinking green veg, cauliflower mushrooms, meat, eggs cheese chicken, alpro no sugar plain yoghurt, and cream type diet?
I lost 3lb then seemed to put on a pound again yesterday.

So you've been recommended what's called a bulletproof coffee (no idea why it's called that!) - if you were doing Bootcamp (I don't think you are, but if you decide to join us) we don't recommend it, as it's really not very nutritious, and we prefer to eat real food.

On a low carb diet you should see a bigger, quicker loss than other diets because as well as losing water and (some) fat in the first week, you're also using up your glycogen stores. So you don't need any 'quick fixes' to get the weight moving, just switch to eating low carb.

You also haven't been eating much veg, which is important for nutrition, and I'd also recommend that you try to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as you can - so no more skinny syrup or Fanta Zero!

This is pretty much right - but make sure that your yoghurt is full fat - and just be aware that for some people dairy can be an issue. Only way you'll find out is trial and error though.

The electrolyte tablet is a good idea, as that will help you avoid carb flu. It also helps you with the water intake, which really is important.

How much do you weigh and how tall are you?
