Thought I was on keto....

I've started what I thought was keto but this morning I've got the pee sticks and I've got a trace so I know I'm not actually in Ketosis yet. I don't think I'm eating enough fat. So do I crank up my fat intake this week, will that make a difference?
I'm finding I'm running out of calories alot faster with the high fat foods so can't eat as much.
Ate loads last week on 1500cals plenty chicken, eggs, Meats etc and some cheese with every meal too.
Planning on adding an Avacado, chia seeds and Peanuts to meals too now and seeing how I go! Does this sound correct?

You don't count calories when low-carbing.

Calories count even on a low carb diet. Excessive proteins in some people will also kick you out of ketosis and you seem to be eating only proteins from your meal description.

How many carbs are you aiming to stay below? I have to start at very low carbs to show keto so for me I never start above 20g of carbs a day but as my body gets into the swing I can go up more in carbs but gradually getting to 50g.

Fraaahnces · 13/09/2022 06:32

Totally agree… Ditch the calorie-counting and just eat what your body needs. Also increase the water. You need a lot more in the early days. I lost 65kg on keto. Have faith.

Low carb, high fat and no need to count calories. Lots of green veg. Lots of fluid. The weight will drop off.

It can take quite a few days to get into ketosis. Think it took me at least 4 the first time I did it. Your body has to use through all your glycogen stores first.

It will also depend how low your carbs are. I stuck to 20g when I did keto.

I wouldn't be strict with calories too begin with but I would keep an eye on it. What you usually find is that the higher fat will keep you fuller for longer, naturally reducing your calorie intake.

Nuts, seeds, oily fish are also great to add to your diet.

I don’t count anything and I’ve been in ketosis pretty much constantly for over a month.

I have definitely had very high calorie data but weight loss remains unaffected.

What are you eating each day?

Hi iv been on keto around 3 weeks and have lost around a stone which is good I haven’t really counted macros apart from carbs and maintaining a calorie deficit which really hasn’t bothered me much in terms of hunger pangs etc I was very deep into keto on the urine strips last week this week I seem to be less and less on the strips each day I don’t really know why. Iv concentrated on eggs meats apart from chicken really and cheese I have black coffee sometimes add cream if I fancy it I’m monitoring the weight loss quite close at the minute I’m not a massive lover of all veggies I use things like spring onions sparingly red pepper sometimes garlic cloves in food any advice anyone could give would help I live a busy lifestyle so my way up to present hasn’t been too difficult thanks please be kind haha

You have probably become fat adapted so not losing as many ketones in urine which is a positive thing. So your body is now only using fat as a fuel source.
I'd love to get to this point but I always end up having 'cheat' days and set myself back

@Dazzaa could let me know where to buy the keto sticks please? Last lot I bought from Amazon where useless!!
Thank you

MissSmiley · 01/01/2023 11:34

Using a blood ketone monitor is much more accurate, you can get those on Amazon too
