Can you make me like eggs?

Thought this might be a good place to find some egg fanatics. I know they are great for you and my kids eat tons of them (and I am grateful) but I hate them - the taste, the texture. So is there anything I can do to learn to like them?

I also hate cheese so a cheese/egg combo won’t work.

Basically I’m a low carb disaster!

Devilled eggs? These are popular in America but for some reason you rarely find them in Britain. I love them! Google some recipes - they're very simple.

purplesequins · 02/01/2022 19:41

what have you tried?
fried, scrambeld, boiled, poached?

as children we were given 'sugar egg' as a snack. just a beaten raw egg with a little sugar & cinnamon. tasted like cookie dough.

or egg royale, cubed over salad?
it's basically oved cooked beated egg, then cut into cubes to add to soups or salads.

or cracked over a stir fry?

I hate eggs but I like spicy eggs. So can eat a masala omelette or Indian scrambled eggs (Bhurji).

purplesequins · 02/01/2022 19:42

or french toast, you can have it savoury if you prefer that.

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 19:42

Ooh having just looked at a recipe that may be just the ticket - I especially dislike the yolk and that might help disguise it.

That was to devilled eggs^

Spicy might be good as well, and I will tolerate them in a stir fry so maybe soy would be a good option.

Why don’t you just calorie count and focus on whole foods, fibre and some protein at every meal?

Lacedwithgrace · 02/01/2022 19:44

Add potatoes to make a hash, or frittata

ontana · 02/01/2022 19:44

Shakshuka?

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 19:47

@Luredbyapomegranate that’s a really good question … I think the answer is that they are really nutritious and if I could make myself like them they are a quick and useful source of protein

I do like a Spanish omelette. Or rather, I don’t hate it.

Not so keen on shakshuka - I have a lovely Israeli friend who makes one for brunch and I’ve never been able to face it (I did try it once)

I don't like fried eggs, poached or boiled. But I love an omelette - with any number of fillings including mushrooms or with spinach, peppers and tomatoes as a tortilla.

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 19:50

Yes I was wondering if I could get some spring onions and peppers going into an omelette to disguise the taste.

My 7yo is obsessed with tomato omelettes but for some reason to me they smell like wet dog 🤢

This isn’t what you asked for at all, but have you tried tofu? It’s got more protein per serving and no cholesterol, so it’s better for you, and it doesn’t taste of anything so you can flavour it to suit the meal but also eat it plain if you want. It’s so versatile and really lovely!

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 19:54

Yes, we have tofu once every week or two. I hadn’t realised it was higher in protein! I love it rubbed it sesame oil and a hint of 5 spice and griddled. Or coated in panko and oven baked with katsu sauce Smile

If you really hate eggs, then don't eat them. A low carb diet has enough protein choices, that you don't have to eat things you hate! You're supposed to enjoy your food, not suffer it. Do you like meat, steaks, chicken breast, sliced lamb, tapas like salami, chorizo, olives? Fish like salmon, seafood? If so no need to eat the eggs you don't like. Maybe have a bacon sandwich (with Nimble low carb bread) for breakfast instead, or a sliced meat platter. Or if you really want to include eggs, a one egg omelette with lots of filling. So that the egg binds the ingredients together, but isn't too "eggy".

Policyschmolicy · 04/01/2022 19:54

This is a good point @JovialNickname, but I fear if I only ate food that I really enjoy my diet would look like a 90s kids party … ok so that’s an exaggeration but maybe if I can find a way to not hate eggs that would help with satiety and stop snacking (a big problem particularly when wfh in a cold house)

I hate eggs as well, the smell is enough for me 🤢

Policyschmolicy · 04/01/2022 20:04

Omg yes the smell, and the smell of things from the dishwasher if something eggy has been in there 🤢
