Feeling awful after consuming carbs.

I've been following a low carb diet for a while now and have lost almost 2 stone. I had a stressful day at work and had no time to eat. Tonight I thought sod it, and had a whole pizza and 2 large glasses of wine. I know I don't make good decisions when hungry.

I feel dreadful, so fatigued and a bit shaky. Is this normal?

Haven’t tried a big carb-dose since I started low carb so I can’t say but it’s probably a shock to the system for your body to have all those simple carbohydrates in the pizza dough. Could also be the alcohol if you’re out of practice.
I reckon your body will slip easily back in ketosis though if you get back to eating low carb.

I had a similar experience last night. Been eating low carb for about two months now but we have come away on holiday and I thought, sod it. As a treat we had a one off meal of fish and chips (not even a huge portion) and I just felt so sluggish after, I slept terribly - had racing thoughts and vivid dreams. Woke up feeling a bit sick. It was so strange. Gone right back into low carb eating today and feel fine now.

Just something I came across which is informative on this subject.

He talks about cycling carbs back in. I have done low carb in the past but now eat small portions of starchy food too & do cardio, relatively fasted and non fasted. It gets the body better practiced in being 'duel fuel'.

Yes, I've done that and felt like crap. I still haven't learned not to, though Hmm

Carbs make me feel awful too. Feel hungover after I eat them. Headache, dehydrated, puffy, tired. Feel so bad that I generally avoid except for special occasions.

Yes, I've had this - it's normal and should pass off soon. I assume it's something to do with your body struggling to process all the sugar after so long without it.
