Keto and calories question

Looking to start Keto, from my understanding I need to keep my carbs under 20g a day but should I also be tracking calories - i mean will I still lose if my carbs are low but I eat say 2000 cals (MFP currently recommends me to eat 1200 to lose - I have about 2st to lose)
Not exercising apart from walking atm.

MFP is sometimes a little low. Work out your tdee here (your calories to maintain your weight as it is now) then reduce that total by 20% to get a calorie target to aim for, this needs recalculating as your weight goes down.

The only person I know who did keto raised their cholesterol, from an already high, 6.5 up to 12.9 in 3 months. It triggered a review by a consultant at the hospital until they revealed they were having coconut oil in their coffee & eating high fat food!

Keto and calories question

Thr above numbers were just an example but thank you, I just wondered if by eating Keto that you could perhaps have more calories per day and it wouldn’t make much difference but I’m looking at the low carb bootcamp now as that seems a bit more manageable for me Smile

You still have to eat at a calorie deficit, but keto/low carb will make it much much easier (once you get over the initial hump), and is really good for you in other ways too.

I haven't been counting calories on Keto and lost a stone and a half in under 2 months. But for a month now I've remained at the same weight so I think I need to watch the calories now (and do some exercise!). I have half a stone to go. Keto has definitely reduced inflammation in my body - I have carpal tunnel syndrome and I no longer have any aching in my wrist which has been bliss.

I counted calories when I did Keto out of interest as much as anything. I'd spent 8 months on about 1400 calories a day (and output calories of around 1800 measured on my Fitbit) and only lost a pound. When I did Keto my calories were around the same but I lost 16 pounds in 3 months. A couple of people have said I've lost weight because I was in calorie deficit which may be true but I had the same calorie deficit for months and didn't lose much so there is definitely more to keto weight loss than just calorie deficit.

Thanks all, that’s interesting orange
Will keep Keto in mind for if the low carb doesn’t work for me

I don't count calories. Keto/low carb only works long term if you are eating enough fat and protein to feel satisfied.
