Has anyone here reversed T2 diabetes by going low carb?

Need some inspiration/motivation. Has anyone here taken up low carb in order to reverse T2 and been successful? I find it hard to get into because a) i'm vegetarian and b) have young kids who eat carbs! I have a lot of weight to shift and have T2 but keep pinging between thinking the best approach is to just lose the weight fast by calorie restriction yet still eat carbs, or go low carb. I know of the Fast800 approach which combines the two but feel it might be too difficult to stick to. Feeling lost and need inspiration, not sure if this is the right place to come! Thanks

My dad was prediabetic and went on a sugar free diet for 6 months. His bloods are now absolutely normal and healthy. He inspired me to do the same. I'm only 4 weeks in but I don't miss sugar at all and I'm never hungry. Have lost half a stone too.

I'm at higher risk of diabetes as I have PCOS so wanted to lower my risk. First few days were hard but now it's fine. Lots of eggs, meat, veg, nuts. No sugar, bread, pasta, potatoes.

I was diagnosed t2 3 months ago with very high levels. After 3 months of no sugar or refined carbs and more exercise they are back to normal. It can be done.

Thanks all, and I will join the thread mentioned above.

I have. My last hba1c was 4.5.

PaperMonster · 22/09/2021 21:13

Initially I did, but now have to take one Metformin as my HBA1C increased despite the low carbing.

DH was diagnosed T2 a decade ago. We lurked on the low carb bootcamp threads, another really helpful part of MN

Lost lots of weight, though GP insisted on continuing metformin for a year after the HBA1c was < 6.

No longer do strict low carb but still not in the diabetic range for bloods. GP surgery continue to do annual diabetic checks as they don't "believe" it is possible to reverse T2.

Yep, me. A 3 month hardcore blast. Now maintain through low carb. It needs a bit if adjustment admittedly and forward thinking for some things. It is worth it though, you will feel better.

Have you heard of Dr David Unwin? He is a GO who has reversed type 2 diabetes in lots of his patients by recommending a low carb diet (specifically cutting out sugar and white bread etc)

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-9336895/amp/The-delicious-breakfasts-wont-believe-low-carb.html

There's loads about him online- and loads of academic articles too, so it would be definitely worth following his advice and discussion it with your doctor as he is a well known GP

I meant he's a GP not a GO
