Can you low carb on a low salt diet?

Hello, I am about to start a low carb diet but am slightly concerned about salt. I have a chronic condition that means I'm on a low salt diet, and have cut down massively on cheese and don't add any salt into my diet. I eat a bit of fish but not meat (& would have to avoid processed meats anyway because of salt content).
I was reading about carb flu & would be concerned as the symptoms sound quite similar to my illness.
Do you think it's an unrealistic diet for me?

I really want to try and lose my lockdown weight but also struggle to do a lot of exercise.

Carb or Leto flu is just where, after a few days, your body switches over from using dietary carbohydrates as fuel (and you feeling hungry if you aren't eating carbs) to using fat as fuel. You feel a bit rubbish, headaches, possibly a but weak, for about 3 days. Don't aim for much exercise over those days, keep hydrated and try caffeine to ward off the headache. Most people feel so much brighter once they are in ketosis and metabolising fats primarily.

Low salt shouldn't be an issue for a low carb ketogenic diet, as long as your nutrients are balanced.

Thanks @ODFOx. I'm caffeine free as it is a migraine trigger for me but will give it a go and hope for the best.

TBH @Stokey I think this is something you should consult your GP about. A low carb diet usually means you consume more salt, so it might not be the diet for you.

Thanks @BIWI. I'm keeping a close eye on how I'm feeling, but actually I think giving up processed foods means I'll be having less salt than normal anyway. I should try and keep under 2g (RDA is 6g) but in normal life even 2 pieces of bread get halfway there. I think so long as I don't overload on cheese, I should be ok.
Should add my low salt is not to do with heart or blood pressure where this diet may be an issue.

Would only be an issue in that a low carb diet should reduce blood pressure!

Good luck with it, but do keep a close eye on things.

TBH I think you're right that cutting out processed food and bread will also reduce the amount of salt you're consuming.

FYI here's a piece from The Diet Doctor about carb flu and salt . Hope that's helpful!

When I was low carbing I had to add more salt than normal or I'd get leg cramps
