Feeling amazing on Keto

Ideclarethumbwar · 06/03/2021 18:42

I cannot believe how amazing the Keto diet is making me feel. I am only 12 days in but there are so many significant changes to my health and well-being, I can’t quite believe it.

  • I now sleep a normal amount of about 7-8 hours as opposed to feeling exhausted even after 9hrs sleep.
  • when I wake up, I am alert straight away, there’s no grogginess.
  • I have more motivation to do things whereas before it would take a lot of effort to clean the hours etc.
  • the best one of all: I have had mild incontinence since having a child, but it is 90% better and today is the first time I haven’t worn a panty liner in about 4 years. I’m gobsmacked. I can’t put it down to weight loss as I was this weight 2 years ago and still suffered then. It could be the increase in water and decrease in caffeine.

I’m just so happy and wish I had done this years ago.

Hey, OP, glad to see you're feeling the benefits! I'm doing low carb and am on day 7. I've lost 8lb but like you the most amazing thing is how I'm feeling: my mood is really high and I've got loads of energy and motivation. I was just complaining this morning that I'm unable to lie-in this week because my eyes open in the morning and I just can't stay in bed any more. I guess it's a good thing, but I was so looking forward to my Saturday morning lie-in!

HmmmmmmInteresting · 06/03/2021 20:21

How much have you lost in 12 days?

Ideclarethumbwar · 06/03/2021 20:38

That’s so great @HmmmmmmInteresting!
I’ve lost 12lb but I am due on m period today/tomorrow and weighed the same this morning as yesterday - I usually put a few lb on at the start but this time I’ve stayed the same. I’m hoping this means a good few lb comes off in a few days.

Sorry, 10lb not 12lb

That's fantastic OP. I too am already feeling the benefits after starting six days ago. I've lost 4lb( probably water) and feeling so good on it. Thought I'd be constipated with all the eggs I'm eating but that hasn't been a problem and just feel so healthy. My fridge is full of veg and last night was the first night I wasnt feeling the need to scoff doritos and chocolate,I was full! Hope I can continue like you have with the same success.

Ideclarethumbwar · 06/03/2021 20:48

That’s brilliant @kerkyra, well done! Hardest bit is over. If someone had told me that by the end of the first week, eating 2 small meals a day would fill me up and I wouldn’t crave chocolate, crisps, cake and wine, I’d have laughed. I really can’t believe it.

How do you do it? Is there a book to follow?

kerkyra · 06/03/2021 20:57

I've done my shopping list for tomorrow and you really have to plan,so you aren't caught off guard with nothing in the fridge. I'm sure we all feel so good as the amount of veg is hugh! I've gone having maybe two or three of my five a day to around ten. I'm determined to keep it up and get into my prelockdown jeans.

Sellingsunsetisaddictivecrap · 06/03/2021 20:59

I want to do it. What do I do? Is it like Atkins?

kerkyra · 06/03/2021 21:02

I think it is a version of Atkins? Ive been reading the low carb bootcamps all week to get motivation and ideas. You need to have alot of fat with protein and veg. Carbs are in the form of veg,so some aren't allowed in first two weeks apparently.

Ideclarethumbwar · 06/03/2021 21:09

Atkins is high protein I think... Keto diet keeps protein the same but swaps carb and fat amounts. So it’s about 70% fat, 20% protein and 10% carbs or thereabouts.

I started by looking at Fast800 which is relatively low carb. But you don’t need to restrict calories on Keto if you don’t want to. Your weight loss will be slower then though.

I’m doing a combo of Keto, 800-1000kcals and intermittent fasting 16:8

Ok im off to Google fast800

Ideclarethumbwar · 07/03/2021 08:17

Another unexpected but life changing result - no period cramps. Mine are usually awful when it hits starts but I can’t feel a thing Shock

Well done OP! What sort of meals are you eating? I tried to get back on low carb recently as it usually works for me but really struggled with what to eat, it’s as though I’ve forgotten how to do it!

cheeseisthebest · 07/03/2021 08:23

Come join us on bootcamp!

Ideclarethumbwar · 07/03/2021 10:03

@Marypoppinsbrolly limited to smoked salmon, fresh salmon fillets, frozen tuna steaks, spinach, eggs, mushrooms, salad, courgette, double cream, strawberries, Greek yogurt at the moment. Though I did have a Bolognese last night with courgetti.

@cheeseisthebest when does it start?

cheeseisthebest · 07/03/2021 16:00

This one has nearly finished but another starting soon. Come over to the week 7 thread and jump on!

BIWI · 07/03/2021 16:03

You would be very welcome to join us @Ideclarethumbwar! But Bootcamp isn't keto, just to warn you. Keto is much stricter in terms of the amount of carbohydrate you're allowed each day - 20g or under.

We don't count carbs (or calories) but by following the ten rules you'll be eating naturally good, low carb food.
