Green lentil pasta ..... is it worth it?

I'm low carbing 16:8 and fasting 4 days per week

I've bought explore green lentil pasta, but when I've put it in MFP this morning, it's more carbs than the same weight of wholemeal penne

This can't be right can it?????

What's the benefit to it if it's not low carb?

Probably to make people think they're buying something healthier!

MawkishHawk · 05/12/2020 17:11

Gluten free also

GroundAlmonds · 05/12/2020 17:20

I cater for two coeliacs. One of them low carbs.

Generally speaking chickpea pasta has less than 25% carbs and about 10% protein. Green pea pasta similar. OTOH the lentil pastas come out approx 50% carbs and 20-25% protein.

So I generally buy the chickpea or green pea ones.

I’m depressed that I knew that Sad

MozzchopsThirty · 05/12/2020 17:27

Lol where do you find the green pea pasta?

Tesco, Waitrose or Sainsbury’s.

MozzchopsThirty · 05/12/2020 17:37

I normally shop in Sainsbury's but have never seen it, is it with all the free from stuff?

GroundAlmonds · 05/12/2020 17:41

I only shop online. Let me see if I can work it out from the website.

Looks like they do own brand and Napolima and I’m guessing from the way their categorised in-line they will be in the free from section but I can’t be sure. HTH anyway!

MozzchopsThirty · 05/12/2020 18:42

Oh fantastic thank you so much

No problem Smile

AWryGiraffe · 05/12/2020 20:30

Holland and barret do a mung bean fettuccine which is quite low carb. It's not too bad!

idontfeelwelltoday · 05/12/2020 20:35

I have shirataki pasta from Konjac flour. It's very low carb and very low calories, although quite tasteless BlushGrin

MawkishHawk · 06/12/2020 06:08

Shirataki noodles sounded like a great idea, virtually ‘free’ food, sadly gave me massive bellyache! Smell weirdly like fish when they come out of the packet too.

MozzchopsThirty · 06/12/2020 13:07

Yes I've tried those weird noodles, they do smell like fish and it put me off

I found the pea pasta in Sainsbury's though so thank you SmileSmileSmile

The smell does go away once you've rinsed them, and then cooked them though!

The reason you would have had bellyache is because they contain so much fibre.

But as a low carb option they're brilliant.

MawkishHawk · 06/12/2020 20:57

Yeah I realise about the fibre content. I have quite bad IBS but my digestive system really didn’t like them. Sadly! They’re such a good idea otherwise.

Horrific stuff I have a stomach of steel and these revolting fishy smelling white slithers of grotesqueness gave me terrible stomach issues!

Doubt it The volume of steamed veg I eat most evenings doesn’t cause a thing other than regular BM every morning
Sweetsforsweets · 06/12/2020 21:04

And their fibre content is really not all that striking at all!

Sweetsforsweets · 06/12/2020 21:10

Fiber content of shirataki noodles.
High but not enough to actually cause stomach problems in someone who doesn’t usually get stomach problems!
