Hi,

I have finally decided to work on this baby weight.. (DS is now 14 months and I feel ready)

I started Keto today and I dont know how I will loose weight eating so much fatty food that is usually not allowed - cheese, mayo, more cheese, pizza etc. Is this really possible??

Also I don't know if I am on the right track, this is what I have had and will be having today,

Breakfast: pepper cucumber and tomatoes with 4 slices of fried (olive oil) crispy halloumi cheese.

Lunch - 2 lettuce wraps with roast turkey cheddar and mayo as a filling. I also had a chocolate protein shake with a spoon of coffee)

Snack - a small handful of roasted almonds.

Dinner - dinner will be pizza with an egg and cheese crust.

Will I be able to loose weight if I roughly follow this sort of meal - I will try to incorporate more meat tomorrow - wings, chops, eggs, chicken etc but today I wanted it to be more of a treat day in celebration of my first day on keto

For Keto to be successful, you need to ensure you are only eating 25g of net carbs per day and at least 75% of your daily calories should be coming from fat.
It's quite a mindset shift but eating fat doesn't make you fat! Usually your body will use glucose from carbs as energy but in a state of ketosis, your body uses ketones from fat as its source of fuel.
I'd try and add in some avocado in that daily meal plan as it is a great source of good fat. I have some keto 'carb replacement' recipes if you'd like them :)

Its a big mindset shift. I have always stayed away from fat and it feels so nice to be able to indulge in cheese and butter..

Do you think my menu today is ok? I don't think I went above the 25grams of carbs??

Yes please to do carb replacement recipes. I live abroad (Turkey) and we don't have fancy ingredients here so I hope I will able to find the ingredients..

It's great isn't it!! You may feel like utter crap in a couple of days though, it's known as the 'keto flu' and as your body changes its fuel source you can feel very sluggish and have low energy but if you can get past that you'll be fine.

The main fancy ingredient is almond flour - do you have access to that?

One tomato contains 3g of net carbs so depending on how many you had it's easier than you think to get up to 25g! What is the nutritional information for your protein shake? Usually they are fine but some brands are quite high in sugar.

As I said, I'd add some avocado to your wrap and maybe have a handful of some different nuts as an additional snack if needed. What is your daily calorie aim?

Oh gosh the 'keto flu' sounds horrid, I'm glad you mentioned it I had no clue..

I just looked online and can find almond flour here but its VERY expensive however think I can treat myself a little..
I had one tomato for breakfast and one for dinner as pizza sauce however I am going to look into carbs per fruit veg just to make sure I am being precise.
My protein shake is 0,7g carbs per 30g which is what I drink a day so I guess its ok.

Ok I will add avocados into my wraps and salad, which nuts do you recommend?

Hmm I never though about calories, I didn't think there was calorie counting involved in keto?

I'm new to this too but I would think that if you eat more calories than you burn, you won't lose weight irrespective of where your calories are coming from.

Ah @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

A calorie isn't a calorie. 30 g of almonds compared to the equivalent calorie count of crisps isn't digested in the same way at all. Tim Spector's book The Diet Myth is very enlightening on this issue.
