What problems do you have sticking to the keto diet?. Do apps or forums help anyone?.

I find the Diet Doctor website really helpful in terms of information, meal plans and recipes. It is a great resource for both keto and more liberal low carb diets. There’s an associated Facebook group too which is good.
Personally I found strict keto a bit tough - it’s more difficult to do if you prefer not to eat too much meat and have a largely vegetarian diet, I think. I found I was really tired and weak a lot of the time, and it didn’t seem to be something that was going to pass. (It still worked in terms of losing weight though!). So I moved onto a more liberal low-carb regime with intermittent fasting - 16 hrs per day. The principles are very similar to keto but with more leeway as to carbs (30-50g per day rather than 20g max), with the majority of carbs derived from veg. I find it much easier and have much more energy.
Everyone’s different though. And the Diet Doctor website has lots of info and suggestions for people who are struggling.

I actually find it okay. I stopped drinking coffee a year ago so don't have milk. And I've stopped potato rice normal bread etc. You get to trial lots of different alternates, veg as a side (I used to never eat veg!) and 1000001 different ways to use cauliflower (I cooked cauliflower egg fried rice today). I also found if you falter once it's a fast way to lax-dom so back being strict again. It's easier for me to say NO rather than I'll just have a little bit.

Ah yes I started on 20g a day and lost 2 stone but now do between 50-100 dependent on whether it's a cheat day or not

I’m new to Keto. I’ve downloaded an app that really helps keep me on track. Bit of a headache today but otherwise so far so good!

I lost 20lbs plus a few years ago following dr john briffa lowcarb diet

It's not as strict as some which works for me.

Bsck on it since Saturday...I'm the heaviest I've ever been:(

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/05/2020 01:32

I was low carb since 1 feb till about 3 weeks ago when I went keto. I've lost exactly 3 stones.
I reckon I go above 20g a couple of times a week.
I would say it would be hard as a vegetarian and very hard if you were vegan!
I miss being able to eat loads of veg and fruit, but I am a carnivore which helps.
I decided to go keto as I saw my weight loss slowing. I'll return to just low carb when I get to goal.

I’ve been on Keto for years and the hardest thing is to keep my fat up - it’s so easy to eat protein and think you’re eating fat!

I know when I haven’t had enough fat as I start to feel sluggish and bloated - this usually coincides with me running out of coconut oil or avocados. Occasionally I do a re-set which means back to actively tracking macros and weighing food, as your brain can get a bit lazy with it.

Otherwise, fine. Initially it was difficult to explain to friends and family - they just didn’t get it. But now they actively pick Keto-friendly restaurants! I eat meat, eggs and cheese (very little cheddar if I can help it, because of skin) which helps.

A PP recommended Diet Doctor - brilliant website.

Could someone tell me what 20 grams of carbs a day look like please?

Also, does anyone know if this product is Keto friendly?

If you want to count your carbs down load the app carb manager. 20g of carbs for me is a salad for lunch, some veg (200g ish) like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus etc for tea and a couple of squares of very dark chocolate.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 28/05/2020 07:32

I've found not having skimmed milk in tea and coffee hard. Tea with cream?? No thanks.
I don't like eggs on their own so breakfasts end up being Greek yoghurt and seeds which is lovely but looking for quick alternatives.

It's hard if you love fruit like I do. Miss that, though a few strawberries are ok.

Diet doctor keto bread is a good one, or would be if I can find baking powder anywhere!!
I don't lose weight it seems but I feel so much healthier

wildthingsinthenight · 01/06/2020 23:12

I'd love to find a decent low carb bread recipe! Just for toast on the odd occasion.
Also I struggle with not wanting anything in my fridge! Sometimes the thought of eggs bacon and cheese makes me queasy.
A great hack when you want a dessert is sugar free chocolate syrup stirred into mascarpone! Yum.

wildthingsinthenight · 01/06/2020 23:13

CrazyTimesAreOccurring I can't face cream in tea. I have full fat milk. Not great carb wise but I need to be able to drink tea

TheMostHappy · 12/06/2020 15:59

I just have a dash of soya milk in my morning tea. I do 16:8 fasting too. I struggle with missing crisps. I bloody love crisps. And crusty french bread. I loved my carbs!

Destinysdaughter · 12/06/2020 16:19

If you type keto chaffle recipes into FB, there is lots of info on making low carb waffles, great for breakfast and lots of variations.
