Keto during isolation tips/recipes

Gerbi1 · 06/04/2020 12:54

Hello, I’ve put on loads of weight since being in isolation, I’ve been eating crap and drinking wine and i feel rubbish.

I want to get back on the keto diet and start looking after myself. Do you think I can do it whist food isn’t in great supply and the kids are here eating all the time!

I know once I’m in ketosis I’ll be fine because I won’t be hungry but I’ll have to kick a few habits to get there...

I'm starting back on it today as well. We can't get as much fresh veg as I would like but I'm going to try my best.

Tonight is some sort of creamy chicken and mushroom thing with cauliflower rice.

No broccoli to be had near me at all 😭

I've gone from low carb to keto. I've managed to get deliveries from a butchers and a greengrocers. The annoying bit is realising I need something from the store cupboard but I've run out.
I'm trying to meal plan 2-3 weeks ahead which is helping.

Gerbi1 · 08/04/2020 07:14

That’s a good plan. We are due to go shopping this week but so much of the keto food is fresh I’m just hoping I can get plenty of cauli, eggs butter and cream etc

For store cupboard I’m thinking tinned fish in oil, oils... any idea?

I wonder if I can grow some salad!

What have you got on your meal plan?

Dried mushrooms are great for sauces. Canned spinach also great.

StealthMama · 08/04/2020 09:53

Buy all your veg frozen you'll find it much easier than 'fresh' (frozen is still fresh? )

Cream has been hard to come by even sour cream and Creme fresh you might be better doing the rounds if smaller shops for those items.

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/04/2020 01:42

Tonight we had steaks with leeks/mushrooms with a garlicky sour cream sauce.
I find it easier at the moment to pair some meat/fish with veg like stir fried cabbage.
I intermittent fast so have brunch which has been a couple of boiled eggs mashed with avocado.
We've used the freezer for meat cuts and some frozen veg. I've now got a milkman for dairy and eggs.

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/04/2020 01:42

And crackslaw, lots of crackslaw...

Gerbi1 · 13/04/2020 14:14

Thanks for your ideas. I managed to get most things in the supermarket so I think it’s going to be ok.
I’ve got a couple of cauliflowers so I can do rice and cauli cheese when the rest of the family have rice/ roasties and plenty of butter and oil etc

It’s just the habits i need to break now. I’m starting in the morning. To be honest I’m looking forward to it after this glutinous Easter weekend!!

Can you give me any ideas on what I can nibble on in front of the tv to replace crisps/apples/cheese and bics

Thank you

Grim do you have a good recipe for crackslaw? There seem to be so many variations online.

I’m back on it today. I thought it would be too hard during lockdown but Im feeling so bloated and icky I need to at least try.

MrsKingfisher · 19/04/2020 09:57

I'm starting again today too, fell off the wagon and feel rubbish.

I'm not looking forward to the chocolate cravings.

Homemade burgers and salad tonight that's as far as I've got!

titsbumfannythelot · 22/04/2020 08:25

I have found getting stuff in shops ok if going early enough or to a big enough supermarket. I do go every 5 or 6 days though and have a general meal plan, will start to properly plan for next shop. I usually try and have a few vegetarian keto meals per week too.

MrsKingfisher · 22/04/2020 14:03

I'm living off Fage 5% Greek yogurt with a spoon of almond butter and some berries. Seems to have curbed any chocolate cravings.

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/04/2020 01:18

@Todayisanewday75 I use the Diet Doctor version - I like the Indian recipe but the Italian version with the fresh basil is very tasty too.
I never knew I liked cabbage so much....

siblingrevelryagain · 18/05/2020 07:13

I’ve been on it for 3 weeks now. Some things that have helped me in terms of stocking up/storage;

Hard cabbages (red and white) last literally weeks in the fridge-an easy meal is a protein (chicken/steak/duck) with steamed cabbage finished off in a pan with butter. Goes a long way and lasts ages

Stock up on long life cheese like halloumi & cheddar when you can get it

I freeze double cream in ice cube trays For when availability is low; Take out the night before and defrost in fridge. once defrosted it tastes a bit grainy but not if melted/heated, so are perfect for adding to coffee or sauces
