Hi Everyone

I started low carb and IF on 17th June and thought I'd share a list of the changes I have noticed to see if anyone else can relate. My aim was to stay belong 100g Mon to Fri with a bit of relaxation of carbs at the weekend and IF for 16:8.

  1. I am 9lb's down
  2. My tummy is less bloated
  3. Whilst eating low carb high fat and fasting I feel less hungry in general
  4. Less passing wind (sorry)
  5. I no longer get that awful 3pm sleepy hit!
  6. I don't experience as much bloating
  7. I've lost an inch from my hips and waist
  8. My skin looks clearer
  9. The worst change I have noticed is when I have been doing the Low Carb Mon to Fri and eat a bit to high carb at the weekend (like this weekend) I feel ever so bloated and have stomach cramps - I've definitely learnt my lesson on that one!

Has anyone else noticed any positive changes?

I started on the 25/4. I’ve lost 23lb and am now overweight rather than obese. I’ve got 17lb to go for a healthy weight.

I am LCing with IF too (skipping breakfast). Also being mindful of mindless calories.

I agree with lots of your points but I also feel fine in a bikini now and feel like I’m in control of the food I eat. 😀

Yes, all of the above! I feel so much healthier when I am eating low carb. Two weeks ago I did 5 days keto style with less than 25g carbs a day and lost 7.5lbs - felt amazing going on holiday. I feel very calm around food when I'm low carbing, and it doesn't feel like a chore or that I 'can't have' carbs, because the difference is, I don't want them.

I have also recently cut out dairy and while I didn't do it for health reasons, I feel so good that I realise it must have been affecting me without knowing.

Low carb vegan here. All of the above benefits apply to me too. And it’s very easy to stick to until I go out to eat and then it can be tricky, but I’m managing!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/08/2019 09:28

Box how do you find being low carb and vegan? I do eat meat but I am really trying to cut down, and was amazed as I said above about the dairy and the effect it must have been having on me. But it's so difficult to find dairy free products without sugar added that are actually nice. The alpro plain yoghurt for example is horrible. Do you have any tips?

Dh switched to low carb to try and control diabetes. Blood sugars have completely stabilised, are consistently low( in a good way) and he feels so much better.

Vix, would you mind giving me a few days sample menu as a low carb vegan? I’m vegan but really unsure what I could eat if I cut carbs. Thanks!

I can go AGES without eating. I’ve completed a few 24hr fasts.
I need less sleep
Never ever get “hangry” or “starving”
It saves loads of time as I don’t need to stop and eat all the time
It’s in some ways better for the planet as you don’t eat as much plus you eat fewer processed or packaged foods.
I have a new appreciation for previously unloved veg!

Siameasy · 04/08/2019 10:02

Well done on your weight loss by the way! It’s great to lose from the belly as well, I had a horrible stomach (I was 11.8, now 9.5 or so. I’m hoping to end up below 9 because I participate in a sport which favours low body weight but as I am is fine if I don’t get there)

cheesenpickles · 04/08/2019 10:03

My skin is amazing since going low carb and I never get wind anymore. Worth the trade off for pasta. GrinI'm also 32lbs down.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/08/2019 11:13

Siamesey that's true about needing less sleep. My total hours haven't increased but my sleep quality has improved tremendously

MyFoofIsAloof · 04/08/2019 11:26

Great list @flowerpower18 I also noticed how much nicer my teeth felt, in fact my whole mouth felt cleaner.

Unfortunately, I've fallen off the low carb wagon; any tips for getting back on it and sticking to it?

I can't keep up with the boot camp threads!

Vix20678 · 16/08/2019 22:57

@Q1w2e3 sorry I only just saw your question.

I eat a lot of avocado, nuts, tofu and olives! Coconut milk, chia seeds, and a LOT of non starchy vegetables. I try to avoid processed foods wherever possible and just focus on eating natural stuff. It’s easy when I’m at home but going out is trickier although not impossible.

Vix20678 · 16/08/2019 23:03

A few sample vegan meals I enjoy are:
Ratatouille
Sweet and sour crispy tofu
Scrambled tofu with tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado and spinach
Chinese curry style tofu
Vegetable stir fry with nuts
Tofu Bolognese
Spicy aubergine
Jackfruit burgers (obviously no bun)
Also make my own seitan steaks, bacon and tenders

Anything that would be served with carbs I just serve with heaps of steamed vegetables or a salad of some kind.

I also eat a fair bit of almond butter if I’m in need of more fat in a day!

Survivingchipandkippee · 16/08/2019 23:08

Out of interest what would you eat each day op?

Feelingfortyisntfun · 20/08/2019 12:14

I find low carb hard to stick to but I notice my face is much more balloon like when I'm including processed carbs (even wholegrain ones) but that maybe because I just eat too many!
