Does low carb re-set your weight?

I’ve been eating low-carb for a few years now, originally on boot camp but it’s now a WOE for me. About once or twice a year I gain about half a stone very quickly (in a week) with no change in diet or exercise but if I just carry on then within a week or two the weight starts dropping off again and then just stays level again. Is this normal? The first time it happened I decided to try carbs again with disastrous results but since then I’ve just persevered and this is the result. I’m assuming it’s just water weight as it’s so quick but no obvious trigger. The last time I actually dropped a few more pounds and then levelled so just wondering if this is my body’s way of resetting it’s optim weight.

Water weight I can lose 10lbs and gain 10lbs in a few days on and off low carb as glucose stores and water go quickly so it’s not fat but frustrating
