Low carb and antidepressant?

Sorry if this is very often asked. What’s the deal with antidepressants and low carb high fat diet? I’m fat and miserable but would like to change both, not just either /or. Really really don’t want to get fatter. Started sertraline today. Thanks.

Try asking the question on the current Boot Camp thread (we're in Week 3) in the Boot-camp diet topic (sorry, I'm on my phone so can't link).

There are quite a few Boot Campers who have been depressed and found the Boot Camp Way of Eating helpful.

Not being glib, but double up the lchf with at least one daily walk in daylight. It will boost your mood, and help with weight loss. It will help both aspects. Really. And make sure you drink plenty of water and get loads of sleep.

Good luck. BTW, I sometimes find the 1st few days really hard, but then feel physically and mentally lots better, but you really need to stick to it for a few days. Good luck!

Thanks. I have done lchf and know it works when I get my will power sorted, but I’m going through a difficult time (so the sertraline) and will power and sleep are in short supply. But I will start lchf again properly on Monday and charge up my activity tracker too - and I might pop into the bc thread.

Hi Fanny, I'm a few weeks further along than you. I'm losing weight and not long started on Sertaline (though wake a fair few times in the night so not great for tiredness). Hoping low carb will help combat tiredness after a while.

Hope you are doing ok .. I'd really question whether low carb is a good choice for you ... I've tried it several times and it lowers my mood .. it also robs me of my sleep .. I had to take sertraline several years ago after a double whammy of a bereavement and my own early stage breast cancer diagnosis .. it really helped ..
I'm not overweight .. but I was very conscious of my diet for health reasons ... I'd say keep the healthy non processed carbs ... they lift your mood xx ..

I've been on citalopram for about 10 years. I started LCHF about 6 weeks ago. I can honestly say I'm getting less depressed by the day. I think the main reason might be my insomnia has disappeared so I'm actually getting enough sleep for the first time ever. I'm on 40g citalopram but considering reducing my dose if I continue to feel better. I've already stopped taking my sleeping medication.
