Missed period since starting low carb

My periods have always been 100% regular. I started low carbing (20g and under each day) on Sunday and was due my period on Monday. Bar one light spot on Monday and another on Wednesday nothing has happened. Could this be connected to the low carb diet?

Low carb can cause irregular peirods but it seems a bit quick if you only started the day before. As I understand it, it is the weight loss that stops the period, or low calorie intact in itself, not low carb.

day before your period is due I meant

Could you be pregnant?

SpoonfulOfJam · 19/01/2018 14:41

So you didn't eat carbs for one day and thought this is why you're period was late?

Have I misread that?

I highly doubt missing a couple of slices of toast and replacing spaghetti with courgetti for your dinner has affected your menstrual cycle.

Have you had sex? This is far more likely to affect your menstrual cycle. Take a pregnancy test.

Your.

As someone who would give their right arm to fall pregnant, but for whom it is very very unlikely, I appreciate your tone, thanks Spoonful. In that context, trying to sound clever doesn't seem quite so good.

If anyone has any useful comments I would appreciate them

You know what, that was an unnecessarily arsey comment on my part. I apologise for my tone and any bad feeling I caused.

What I should have said is something more like- it seems really unlikely. Youve probably inadvertently had low carb days in the past, and not noticed any difference. A change in diet would probably take a much longer time to affect your periods, if at all.

When you say your periods are regular, to me, the most likely reason is pregnancy. I wouldn't fully trust any contraceptive to be completely reliable. So if you've had sex, there's a chance. Maybe a test would be useful to at least rule out pregnancy.

Thanks Spoonful, I appreciate that.

I have just had similar experience, I am always 28 day regular as clockwork- but since starting LCHF and exercising regularly I was 5 days late this month. I found lots of articles online that suggest this is possible, and actually a common reason why you might be late.

Mammyofonlyone · 03/02/2018 09:44

Average I'm going to see what happens this month but I'm fairly sure it must be the diet now

It's not the diet after one day. I'm sorry but it's not.
