LowER carb diet macros question

CremeDeSudo · 27/09/2017 09:02

I'm trying to overhaul my diet a bit as despite sticking to cals just over my BMR, exercising and generally moving more I'm not really losing weight. Or if I am, it's extremely slowly.

So I've decided to try lowering my carb intake. I'm aiming to low carb during the day, then whatever we usually have for tea. Yesterday was my first day and my macros came in at 31% carbs, 39% fat, 30% protein. How does that sound? I'm not trying to get into ketosis, so is this low enough to hopefulyl start seeing some results?

Carbs way too high.

You’re gonna struggle to lose weight because of insulin not carbs. Insulin blocks the hormones that burn fat. So cutting carbs is really a way to depress insulin so you can burn fat for fuel as opposed to glucose.

So two choices really: cut calories massively and expect to be hungry. You will lose weight this way.

Or cut carbs massively and burn fat for fuel. You will lose weight faster this way.

Myfitnesspal is a great tracker you can set your macros on there

I have 5% carbs
25% protein
70% fat

I think your percentages sound pretty much ok. The 5% of PP is extreme. You say you're not trying to go into ketosis.

I lost weight with a similar macro profile. 30% protein is more than most people would naturally eat so you'll be less hungry than normal. You could increase fat and decrease carbs a little but I think you're ok. I know plenty will disagree.
