Concerns about fibre if I low carb

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 15/08/2017 14:49

I am toying with low carb but often have bouts of constipation so how do I get my fibre?
I am currently white carb queen so I'm convincing myself that perhaps high fibre, F-Plan diet type of thing would be a better option for me?
The shock of low carbing might possibly kill me.

Flaxseed is low carb and high fibre so a lot of low carbers use it to stave off constipation. Apparently magnesium tablets can help in that regard as well. You can still eat lots of fibre when you're eating low carb because there are lots of veggies that are low carb and high fibre.

Thanks.

If you're doing it properly, you should be getting plenty of fibre from vegetables and salad - plus the fact that you'll be drinking lots of water and eating loads of fat, which will also help

As above.

I also found magnesium helps too - superdrug and boots stock the tablets.

Low carbing fixes my bowel problems. Less bloating, fewer ibs symptoms.
I eat moderate amounts of veg and salad.
I honestly think my ibs was aggravated by starch and sugar.

Psyllium husks are excellent if you lack fibre in a low carb diet (personally I find that even large amounts of veg and salad are not as effective as I would have expected).

They're not tasty, but they provide excellent fibre and no carbs.

Yeah, I also get less bloating etc and will balloon if I do sneak e.g. white bread.

There has been times where I've taken flax seed or fibre drink sachets if things seem jammed up.

Roast celeriac sorts it out for me, along with lots of green veg

If you're currently the 'white carb queen' as you said in your OP then how are you getting fibre at the moment? There's not going to be a huge amount in white carbs!
Switch to high fibre veg, avocado, etc. I agree with a PP who said they experienced less bloating on a LC diet. I have virtually no digestive discomfort when I low carb, I aim for under 50g carbs a day and usually get around 15-20 g of fibre within that.
