I can't have lost 5 lbs overnight can I?!

Decided yesterday to begin low carbing - I have done it in the past with good results but have stupidly let all the weight back on again.

Anyway, got on and off, several times scales yesterday morning and was horrified. Got on again this morning - and 5 lbs have disappeared. Can that really be right? I've got about 2 stone to get shot of, but even so.

Carbs are stored in your muscles as glycogen which is the energy you need for high intensity exercise or in the first few minutes of exercise. Glyocogen also draws water into your muscles. So it's possible but it will mostly be water and it won't last I'm afraid.

dreamcometrue · 13/01/2015 08:18

A lot is water. It's recommended that you weigh yourself at the same time each day/week because it can alter by 2/5lb over 24 hours.

JuanPotatoTwo · 13/01/2015 13:23

Thanks for answers. I figured it would be mostly water but even so I was staggered at the amount.

Don't be too disheartened if a pound or two comes back on, I've been low carving 3 weeks and have lost 12lbs so far and I only really want to lose another stone now.
I lost 8lbs the first week then put 2 on again by the middle of the second week.
Keep at it Smile

Evenhasawatermark · 13/01/2015 13:27

Low carbing even Blush

JuanPotatoTwo · 13/01/2015 16:19

Gosh that's amazing Even, thanks and well done. Will definitely keep at it, I'm heavier than I've ever been.

Were your scales in the same place?

I once thought I'd lost 7lb in one day and it took me ages to realise the scales weren't accurate on carpet Blush

JuanPotatoTwo · 13/01/2015 18:25

Oh Katie, how disappointing that must have been. Yes, scales were in same place. Be interested to see what they say tomorrow.

Seriously Juan, I've never been particularly big-went from a uk 4 to 10 though within6 months with depression eating. Once you put your mind to losing it you will

JuanPotatoTwo · 13/01/2015 19:52

So Even, you've lost a considerable amount? What sort of things have you been eating? Hope you're feeling better now, depression is a bugger.

I've literally gone back to basics. Got rid of everything processed and have done one veg shake for breakfast, a carb and protein lunch and a protein and veg tea with a nut/fruit snack. I am full constantly and haven't even started exercising yet

Evenhasawatermark · 13/01/2015 20:02

This is my basic week-I always have chickpeas, spices, pulses etc in anyway

I can't have lost 5 lbs overnight can I?!
JuanPotatoTwo · 13/01/2015 20:03

Can I ask what you have in your shake? I've been eating avocado for breakfast (for the whole two days that I've been at it so far :)).

Cross posted - thanks for that.

4 and a quarter pounds back on overnight. Bollocks Grin. Still, it's still a little bit less than when I started.

JuanPotatoTwo · 15/01/2015 08:13

So 4 lbs gone again overnight! I can see this is going to be an interesting journey. Is anyone else's weight loss in the early days behaving like this?

How was today Juan? I yoyo all the time day to day but my weekly is still showing losses so try not to give up if it goes up again.

JuanPotatoTwo · 17/01/2015 12:44

Hi Even, thanks for encouragement. I've stuck to it as much as possible but have to admit I haven't eaten anything today yet. Just don't feel like it but will force myself later. Also - my scales have broken! So haven't weighed since Wednesday morning. How are you doing?

OP posts:
JuanPotatoTwo · 18/01/2015 16:10

So, new scales have arrived. I have lost 10 lbs this week. I have been following boot camp rules fairly rigidly, although perhaps not drinking as much water as I should. I am pleased :)
