The Perfect Health Diet anyone..?

I've been reading up on The Perfect Health Diet, which essentially seems to be paleo-esque but with potatoes. So it's no sugar, legumes, grains or vegetable oils, and yes to meat, veg, white rice/potatoes, good fats and some fruit. It sounds perfect for me, as I'm really wanting to move away from my unhealthy diet which currently includes too much sugar and processed food, but I couldn't face low carb.

Has anyone else tried it, or would anyone like to give it a go? I'm going to finish the book and then get planning some good healthy meals this week. I've already given up booze for Sober October, so it feels like the perfect time to add in some other healthy improvements.

I've been Primal for years (currently on a break from added fat and potatoes, but that a different story!). I lost ~35kg, maintained for 2+ years (regained 6kg which is now lost again).

I've always liked Paul Gaminet, because of his advocacy of higher carb diet and 20% carbs suits me best. :)

I like the Anthony Robbins alkaline diet, you lose a lot of weight and the energy levels go through the roof. it is in the book Unlimited Power

Thanks, I'm still reading and it all makes so much sense, I just really struggle with implementing these big changes. How have you both managed it - cold turkey?

Thanks bargainhunter I'll take a look at that too.

Giving up wheat was a struggle, but seeing the weight coming off was a big motivation to keep going. The rest was fairly easy. I discovered along the way that cream and butter don't really agree with me, nut oils make a lovely snack (coconut is my favourite) and avocado is super versatile. :)

Sugar is the problem for me, and is the thing that always makes me cave in. I swing between deciding to gradually cut down, and going full on cold turkey. It just makes me so miserable when I cut it out Confused

Sugar cravings...Luckily you are allowed any fruit and 70+% chocolate and Paleo baking! Grin

PHD is a much higher carb diet, you shouldn't be getting as many cravings and/or any of the symptoms of getting into ketosis, you'll become keto-adapted through the natural diurnal and nocturnal body cycles.
If you feel miserable as you are adapting to the diet (and learning how to), do reach out for the fruit, nuts and even the dark chocolate. Plan some guilt free(ish) paleo baking and incorporate into your day: mini muffins, chocolate covered coconut/nuts are easy to take out. :)

Thank you. I'm starting today but am taking a gradual approach, so no added sugar today - I can seriously only manage it a day at a time (like the addict that I am). If I think too far ahead it all seems impossible and I end up not doing anything.

Planning on 3 meals which should limit my need for sweet snacks, and will instead fill up with nourishing food.

Right, I'm off for my run (might take my mind off biscuits...)

I'm starting a similar sort of eating next week - no grains, sugar or processed food. It's going to be a big change but I really need to get my unhealthy eating under control and get more organised with meal planning etc. I'd be happy to lose maybe 7lbs in the process too, but it's mainly about improving my health.

I shall report back in on Monday, after I've got myself organised over the weekend. Are you still foloowing this WOE OP?

Oh and once I've polished off the appke crumble I made this afternoon Blush
