I am on a low carb diet as I am pre diabetic so am experimenting to see if a low carb diet makes a difference. Well you have to try something! plus I was two stone overweight.
My diet doesn't allow potatoes, cereal, pasta, rice or bread except for one day a week. I can have fullfat milk but not semi skimmed or skimmed as full fat has less carbs than the other two and double cream has less carbs than full fat milk!
The idea is that you cut carbs as a fuel for your body and slightly increase fat and protein. Not like Atkins or Dukan where you increase a lot and cut most carbs. This diet allows veg and some fruit.
My breakfast now is bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes; or scrambled egg; or full fat Greek yogurt with berries and almonds or sausage with egg or mushrooms. No toast, no cereal.
Lunch is Greek salad with feta cheese, omelette, chicken with skin on and salad plus mayonnaise, ham salad or with poached egg - if I haven't had eggs that day
Dinner is exactly what my family has but with extra very low carb veg to make up for the lack of potatoes. I just eat the bolognese or curry or chilli if I am serving that sort of dish.
I am also allowed 85% plus chocolate every day. Just 20grms but you can't really scoff that chocolate as it isn't sweet.
At the weekend I had my feast day, as its called, where I can reintroduce carbs. I had chip shop chips with my dinner and thoroughly enjoyed them but they were so greasy and far too much.
I have been on it for a month and am 10lb down in weight now.
I found out just this week that my sister, who is a size 8 despite having three kids, has been following her own version of this for ten years and hasn't put on an ounce. She has Mayo on salads, cream in coffee, makes and eats her own chocolates and at weekends eats whatever she wants. Weekdays - no dense carbs like potatoes, bread etc
