Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - welcome to week 5

Evening/morning (depending on when you read this!)

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So now we're in the second half of Bootcamp. Hopefully we've successfully navigated the doldrums of weeks 3 & 4, and the scales should be a bit kinder to us all. But bear in mind that weekly losses are now going to be smaller than in the first couple of weeks. This is entirely normal.

By now everyone should be feeling more confident about low carbing/Bootcamp, and how this can become a longer term WOE. Of all the diets I have ever done (and I'm guessing that like many of you, there have been plenty along the way), this is the only one that has ever felt like it can become a genuine WOL - way of life - as well as WOE.

The thing that always marks these threads out to me, compared with any of the threads about weight loss that you might read on Mumsnet, is just how much they're about good, tasty food. Not deprivation or compromise. And I think that's why it's easier to stick to.

So in the spirit of foodiness, it seems appropriate to issue a Bootcamp food challenge! Like many, I'm very much aware of the cost of food right now - try as I might, the cost of my weekly shop seems to go up and up. I wish I could say it was because of all the fillet steak and lobster I'm buying, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

One of the things I've been trying to do, to keep the weekly bills down, is to add in at least one more vegetarian meal per week. So my challenge to you all is to post a recipe for a killer vegetarian meal - obviously one that also fits with Bootcamp - that is perfectly suited to weekday, family eating.

Look forward to reading all the suggestions Flowers

@CrepuscularCritter Well done on the NSV. Enjoy your guilt free nandos.
AlltheBlackCoffee that is really unfortunate but you did well not to eat the gravy covered portion. I would've probably just thought 'sod it'!

I've had a good day eating wise but I'm really craving carbs-butter beans of all things. I think I'm due on which would explain it. I'll have an early night to stop me from caving.

Thanks @BIWI Grin

@CrepuscularCritter

But it fits perfectly...two sizes down.

Gratters. It's a great feeling, isn't it ?

NotDonna · 12/02/2023 22:08

@CrepuscularCritter two sizes down is amazing, blooming well done you!
prettybird I made double the sauce and popped half to one side before adding eggs so will have another go tomorrow. Im going to make DDs on the hob as she likes soft poached. And the other half in the oven as tangled suggests but in a tapas dish and I’ll try to ‘scramble’ the egg. I need to mix the egg for me as I can’t stand the yolk and white separate.

B’fast - Black coffee
lunch - creamy garlic mushrooms
Dinner - raclette (but with guyere), ham, tenderstem, asparagus, peppers
no snacks but not enough water.

Hi everyone, sorry to butt in! Can someone please point me in the direction of a beginner’s thread, to get to grips with low carb, I don’t know where to start?! TIA 😊

prettybird · 13/02/2023 08:25

Welcome @TwoBigNoisyBoys Flowers

The OP of every week's thread has a link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has a tab with The Rules, which details what you can and can't eat, especially in the first two weeks, and how much water you should have.

Alternatively, read through the Week thread and see what people were doing, so you can also get a feel for what people were experiencing. Iirc there was also a Prep thread - scroll down through the threads in this topic and you'll find them.

TangledWebOfDeception · 13/02/2023 10:20

Hi @TwoBigNoisyBoys Welcome to the Low Carbing way of life!

My suggestion is to join us on the new thread for this week (@BIWI will post a link sometime today) and jump right in. It’s very simple and we’ll be able to help you get to grips with it, and it’s nice to have company when you’re learning what’s what! As @prettybird said, if you go back to the Jan 23 week 1 thread there’s a list of rules to follow. Then there’s also the spreadsheet of fabulousness where you’ll find tabs with lots of useful information.
