Low Carb -is it slow to begin with?

I've only been doing it 2 weeks and I've lost 2lbs, usually the weight would come off quicker but in line with managing hunger and avoiding insulin spikes and encouraging glucogon, I've not been counting calories but I have cut out rice, pasta, chips, bread, biscuits, cake, crackers........

I suppose 1lb per week is not too bad, I just hoped for a jump start.

I did keto two years ago and lost a stone and then put back on two. I'm heavier now than when I first did keto so I'm not doing keto this time around because when I fell off the wagon, I FELL HARD!

It's really hard to say without knowing more!

  • how much do you have to lose?
  • how much water are you drinking?
  • are you making sure you're eating a high fat diet?
  • you've cut out a lot of the 'obvious culprits' but are you still eating fruit? Or pulses?
  • are you still drinking alcohol?

Have 20lbs to lose so 2lbs in two weeks seems disappointingly slow but ill stay positive. Keep at it.

No carbs except veg, no fruit in the last 2 weeks, 3 blueberries!!

Had one g&t

I drink a lot of water, fond of tea and coffee but having almond milk as it prokes no insulin response.

Im making keto rolls to keep to work to keep carbs as low as possible.

Dr jason fung said legumes provoke very minimal insulin response so yesterday i had somes peas!!

Ill keep going..... i was eating all the wrong things before! Bread, cake, rice, beer! Chocolate. HOW can the weight be coming off so slowly!!

Frying my veg ib butter! Nuts, avocados, soft cheese, salmon, eggs, beef slices!

I think my diet might be too high in fat?

Are you in ketosis? The g and t could have knocked you out which is why you havnt lost lots, you need to stay off the carbs for days at a time to get into the right mode.

Im an experienced low carber, started and stopped multiple times. I have found that it takes about 10days to get properly into the diet and i usually lose about 6lb of water in that time. After the 10days i feel noticably less bloated, slimmer and my appetite reduces, cravings go etc.

I do find after the initial woosh weight loss drops to 1-3lb per week. imo peas are not acceptable in the first couple of weeks especially. You dont know what your personal tolerance for carbs will be so best to avoid them.

What veg are you eating?

I eat, corgettes, cabbage, mushrooms, green leaves, coulifour and broccili, leeks for the most part with occasionally a small amount of the higher carb veg, peppers, green beans, shallots but keep these minimal. I do not eat root veg as these are higher in carbs. these can be reintroduced later once you have a feel for things.

I dont think you can eat too much fat on a LC diet, most of your calories should be coming from fat. Protein should be moderate (as too much will be converted into carbs) and carbs at less then 5g total per 100g (check each ingredient online)

Another thing to think about is dairy, some people find that eating too much dairy stalls their weight loss so might be worth checking this is you continue to have problems.

Be careful of nuts some are quite high in carbs, peanut for instance and cashews. On the mumsnet LC bootcamp we are advised to avoid nuts for the first two weeks for this reason. If you still want them then focus on the lowest carbs ones and limit your portion. I believe that almonds and brazils are the best but please double check.

If you have fb join the group "keto for the clueless" you will get amazing support from the admins and they will help you work out your macros so that you can achieve your goals. Tons of information on there and a really friendly group. I've been doing low carb for the last week and have lost 9lbs. That's probably water weight, but I'm aiming to lose a steady 2lbs a week now. Give the group a try and good luck Smile

@IComeInPeace

I think @Luckydog7 is probably right - you're doing things that are stopping you switching away from carb-burning to fat-burning.

There are a few 'except for ...' things in the foods you've been eating. I know 3 blueberries and 1 G&T might not seem much, and Dr Fung may say that legumes have a lesser impact on insulin - but taking all these things together, plus the nuts, will not be helping you.

Cut them out and be properly strict for a couple of weeks. Try cutting down (or out) dairy as well.

What veg are you eating? And what do you mean by a keto roll?

You've done it before, so you know that it works!

If it helps, the next low carb Bootcamp is starting in just over a week - why not come and join us?

A keto roll is a godsend. Its almond flour, psyllium husk, apple cider vinegar, baking powder, 3 eggs. It makes a roll that is bread- ish
I find this essential for days at work.
I can have a ""sandwich" with butter and a beef slice.

I look like im eating a sandwich. Not that i care too much about being the diet weirdo!!

But no questions or comments when im eating my beef sandwich. Oooooh matron

Lost another pound, so it's only been 2 weeks 3 days and I've lost 3lbs. That's not too bad.
