Would this meal be low carb?

When I go to the Indian I have two salmon fillets on a sauce (no sugar) but I find it filling. I have it with salad. I was wondering if as the portion size of protein would push up the blood glucose?

I'm a diabetic and have carb counted for years.

Depending on the sauce that meal wouldn't touch my BG and if it did it would only be for an your or two, it's carb free.

Grin thank you soo much!! Yummy that lunch can be ticked as a goer! The issue with some of the low carb meals is they don’t look very filling

As long as you're sure the sauce isn't sweetened.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 07/12/2018 23:01

Sauce was mainly oil and spices! Def no sugar but some tomatoes but prob about a tablespoon and some fried onions (prob also about tablespoon- forgot that could push up bg) . This it sounds ok?

I struggle in that I like quantity if I’ve got no bread I need more protein.

No carbs in tomatoes or onions, tomato sauce & passata will have a small amount of carb in because of the added sweetener but tomatoes on there own are fine.
You'd have to eat loads and loads of them for it to affect BG.

Thank you reassuring

If you're doing Low Carb Boot Camp, then you also need to be sure you are having plenty of fat (as Boot camp is HFLC). You'll find that the fat, along with the protein, will keep you satiated.

It's really counter-intuitive after years of being taught that "Fat is bad for you" but it really does work Smile

Feelingfortyisntfun · 08/12/2018 21:20

Thanks prettybird. I’ve typed with it on and off but not committed so now trying to find a way of seeing if it works and a way I can enjoy it too. Now got to find a way of having chocolate and mousse 🥴

Have a look at the olive oil chocolate mousse I posted a week or so back on the dessert recipe thread. Yummy Smile

AsleepAllDay · 08/12/2018 22:46

Low carb chocolate mousse is definitely doable - the usual is whipped cream or cream cheese with chocolate added. I've even had avocado chocolate mousse which is lovely

Feelingfortyisntfun · 08/12/2018 23:10

Ladies thank you! There is hope that olive oil mousse sounds ammmmazing I only have ev olive oil think that would be ok?

I love the consistency of mousse I wonder did the avocado mousse have airy texture? Do you know where to find a good recipe? Googled and seems like lots ...

@GlassSuppers

That meal certainly isn't carb-free

No carbs in tomatoes or onions

This isn't true! Especially with onion.

@Feelingfortyisntfun - that sounds like it should be relatively low carb, but it's always difficult to say with any certainty without knowing how the sauce has been made - it could have thickeners in it, for example.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 09/12/2018 12:53

Hmm one thing I can say is energy and mood is very good today - steak salad last night... hunger abased but not sure if that’s because I’ve been having so much anyway as of late. Watch this space.

What a load of rubbish. I count carbs in every single meal I eat so I can work out my dosage and have years and years of blood sugar testing under my belt.

That's about as carb free as you can get it. I wouldn't require any insulin at all to break down onions or tomatoes.

How many gs of carb are you talking because it seriously is not significant. If I'd been counting them wrong then if would reflect in my blood sugars that I test 6+ times a day no?

BIWI · 14/12/2018 11:04

Well, I can't say how they affect your blood sugar, obviously, and I'm glad you have managed to eat such foods successfully, but I do know that there are carbs in tomatoes and onions! And it's wrong to tell other people that there aren't.

On average, tomatoes are 4g carbs per 100g and onions are 7.9g carbs per 100g. So tomatoes not too bad, but it's very easy if you're making a tomato sauce for it to be quite carby.

Thank you ladies. I did have appetite reduction just cutting out the pasta, bread all grains really and think I probably did go keto as mentioned my appetite dissipated which never happens. However forced yes forced to have carbs at work, and since then I’ve been my appetite flood gates reopened.ay have been a rebound effect of weight loss. I sort of am feeling hopeful as it may have worked... so I’m going straight back on it- watch this space. Yet to see if it effects monthly mood- I’m grumpy a lot of the time anyway so been hard to tell so far and obviously need to do it longer than a week!
