.... My own mother, referring to some friend of a friend, described her disparagingly as 'one of those single mothers'. I coughed. 'Oh not like you, dear,' she said, eyebrows waggling meaningfully, 'One of those single mothers'
I shall now try to work out what distinguishes me - a single mother - from one of those single mothers. And how I could make the transition because they sound much more fun. LOL. Any suggestions?

My dad's partner, a single parent herself for many years, was talking about my sister, a FT working single parent who is having problems juggling everything, and said "she could just give up her job and become a Single Parent for a year or so"

My H who has left me for OW. He has lambasted his sister, with two broken marriages, for years. He will have to eat humble pie now - what a hypocrite.

I get it all the time...people moaning about single mothers then realising that I'm a lone parent and saying "you know what I mean, you're not a typical single mum". So what is a "typical" single mum?

My ex used to harp on about single mums being the scourge of society....that was before he shacked up with a single mum.

This happens to me in work al the time...."those single parents getting all sorts of tax credits...."

At lease the offenders are decent enough to be shamed when I point out that I am one of them

Oh yes... I have had that... with added nasty commons on single children being the scourge of society much less so if they have no father or father's presence.

That woman was talking about another mum and her child and even when I mentioned all along the conversation that I was also a single mum, of a single child, she couldn't find a way to stop.

It doesn't matter... her husband is about to leave her, I'm sure she will swallow her words one day...

And forgot about another one, talking about my ex and his new family, the mum of a friend says: How stupid of him to take on other man's child!

Can't help it, just had to say, "actually, that is a very good thing, what hope to rebuild our lives do your DD and I would have if there were no other men like him???"

(yes her DD is also a single mum)

And worse than that... my mother do also talk about those divorced people, about all divorced people being not good in one way or another, about people with children from other relationships not being worth getting involved with, etc etc. Although to her eyes, I'm not like that!

lol 'those' single mmoms also seem to have lots of money too
