I've always been a single parent, DS now a very sensible 7 yr old. He's always been an early rise - 5 am in the early days. Now 6/7 am. I've always got up when he gets up. On Sunday I went back to sleep for 30 mins. Am I being a bad parent to let him watch tv/play Wii for an hour and me to go back to sleep? He is very sensible, wouldn't touch anything he shouldn't.

Goodness, get some sleep woman. You are not being a bad parent for having a 30 mins extra sleep, he'd probably prefer a mum that was more awake so she can play with him.

My ds was also an early riser, I used to leave a bowl of cereal on the table & a little jug of milk in the fridge so he could get his own breakfast. It meant I could have a lie in. He's 12 now, sleeps in later and at weekends will bring me a cup of tea in bed.

Well, I must be a terrible parent because on Saturday and Sunday I let nearly five DD watch cartoons on Channel 5 (Milkshake - good, old skool stuff) for an hour so I can sleep. She loves it and so do I.
