Introducing children to a new partner dilema!

Have been apart from my childrens (5 and 2) for over 15 months. They have the usual every other weekend and one night a week contact with their father.

I now have now been seeing someone for 3 months, who as far as I can tell would appear to be a very decent man. He has met my boys 3 times in the last couple of weeks and they and he got on well.

Because of the difficulties with childcare and the fact that it would in time be good for us all to start spending some weekends together I am considering allowing him to stay here overnight.

I have a dilema though and that is when has enough time elapsed to allow him to stay here overnight. How do I explain to my 5 year old that my friend will be sleeping in my bed!

Have any of you been in this situation and how did you handle it.

The point I am making is that there are good and bad people male and female. If I though all the women on here were over reacting neurotic' types...well, that would be just as silly as someone using phrases with the words such as these men' isn't it?

I'm sure you're not suggesting that anyone who opposes commonly held views should not post here are fundamentally wrong. Because if that is the case you'd get everyone sitting around saying `Oh, I know!' in bad Sybil Fawlty impersonations every other thread.

You do it in a fairly upbeat, jolly way: you put the children to bed before you and get up as soon as they do and have a family breakfast.

DP and I used not to linger in bed in the morning in front of the DSSs initially, and I always worked hard at protecting the DSSs personal space. Start of "behaving well" so that no-one gets embarrassed, and as time goes by you will all relax!
