Have been on my own now for nearly a year, and the weekends are just awful.
Everyone else is busy doing family stuff and I just would love some adult company or someone to talk to in the real world. How do other lone parents cope?

I quite like weekends now, much more than when with ex when I was always tense. I do stuff with the children, we have found some friends who don't insist on nuclear families. Just walks, chilling out. Really enjoying it. As for the evenings I decided I was going to write a novel, which I've always wanted to do. On a break at the moment, but was good - better than telly. Also I visit my elderly neighbour when kids in bed (semi, you can hear through walls) and she tells me all the local gossip. It can be hard, but it's what you make it, and with time you may well find you really like it!

retiredgoth · 26/09/2008 18:25

....have yet to succumb to a tele habit. My evenings are filled by listening to the wireless and fiddling about on the interweb (used to read books, but have "dumbed down" in old age!)

...urchin care difficult because, well because they are difficult. The older two are undergoing assessment for statements, and are also awaiting formal diagnosis of their communication disorders (ASD to you and me). Consequently very few hardy souls will sit 'em twice. I paid the last intrepid fool £100 a night, still she will not return!

I will sort something in order to see this bunch who are 20 years older than in this clip.

Sad 80s retro geek that I am!

...invites welcome, though. Even if I probably can't go. My email is [email protected]

SmugColditz · 26/09/2008 18:28

I'm in Leicestershire, and I find there isn't a fat lot to do at weekends that doesn't involve gawping at loved up couples.

SmugColditz · 26/09/2008 18:39

I still haven't managed to get sucked into the tele.

I get really bored. And antsy!

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 18:39

I get majorly bored and lonely, and grumpy and pissed off.

MCSomerset · 26/09/2008 19:21

Frans mum, would you like some details of events coming up?

RG - you should as your local LEA to check out Inaura. May be a bit far from Bristol. I have seen them work miracles.

MCSomerset · 26/09/2008 19:23

And Smugcolditz - you are lucky because Single With Kids has loads going on in the midlands (are you in the Midlands?)

mypandasgotcrabs · 26/09/2008 19:29

I'm feeling it too today. Packed the boys off to my mums for the night cos I needed some time to myself to have a damn god cry, but then realised I shouldn't be on my own the way I'm feeling atm, but all my mates are busy/working/don't live near me so I'm screwed. Have just realised I want to be with someone, just feel so so lonely.

tortoise · 26/09/2008 19:34

I agree the weekends are awful! Mainly the evenings.
And i can't drive which makes it even harder to go anywhere!
(Somerset too btw!)

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 19:36

I just feel so totally distraught by having to sit here night after night with nothing to do and no one to talk to, and fridays when the kids aren't here are hell on earth.

I hate it so much,.

tortoise · 26/09/2008 19:39

I feel i waste my life on here tbh. My evening revole around sitting at the computer just to feel like i have someone to talk to!

Blandmum · 26/09/2008 19:41

weekends are the worst

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 19:41

Yup same here. If I click on mn and it doesn't load I nearly cry which just about sums up how pathetic my life is.

It is only a quarter to eight and I am already thinking about going to be because I am so bored.

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 19:42

They are MB, without a doubt.

Blandmum · 26/09/2008 19:42

when I turn off the light I tend to think, 'another day gone' about as good as it gets really

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 19:44

Yes ikwym, I have done the same, and then lay there thinking that I am not sure I want to do another day like that, but you do, because you just have to.

tortoise · 26/09/2008 19:53

I sit here far to late just to avoid going to bed alone. I am tired and cranky but still stay up until 11 or 12 pm.

IllegallyBrunette · 26/09/2008 19:54

Oh I can't do that Tort, I just get too sick of my own company and end up ging to bed and going to sleep so that at least I can escape the lonilness for a bit.

Blandmum · 26/09/2008 19:55

Thankfully I can get to sleep ok. 'needing' to stay up must be so draining T. and being tired must make every day so much harder.

I do walk in the middle of the night, but that is getting better.

Not being able to sleep would do my head in

tortoise · 26/09/2008 19:59

I have always been a night owl so am quite used to being up late. But the last few weeks where i have had 3 school runs (about 6-8 miles a day) i have been shattered.
I don't take too long to get to sleep but normally have to play a game on my mobile until i can't keep my eyes open, just to stop the millions of thoughts keeping me awake.
I just hate going to bed alone.
I do now have the dog sleeping on the bed though lol!

Blandmum · 26/09/2008 20:14

I find tha suduko helps

tortoise · 26/09/2008 20:16

I can't get the hang of sudoko. Have nevr been good with numbers!
I play Monopoly on my Mobile.

moondog · 26/09/2008 20:17

I'm alone a lot as dh away fro long stretches (not quite the same i know) but a project on the go helps. Sewing a quilt or making food to freeze, somethnig like that.
Oh, and MN.

I don't watch tv though. Tooo depresssing alone.

MCSomerset · 28/09/2008 15:59

Whereabouts in Somerset are you Tortie? There may be other parents in Single With Kids who could give you a lift to events? They try to vary whereabouts they are held in the West Country - so for example, some in Bath and Bristol, Bridgwater, Exeter, Taunton, etc.

tortoise · 28/09/2008 21:02

I am inbetween Yeovil and wincanton! I doubt anyone could give us a lift because i have 4 DC.
