Re-registering dd's birth.

My dd is 8 years old and has never met her father. When she was born he insisted on a DNA test which proofed positive and he has paid maintenance regularly through the CSA ever since. I wish to re-register her birth with his name on the certificate. The official form states I need his authorisation or a court order saying he his her father. As I do not know exactly where he lives (but he does live in England) I would appreciate some advice as to who to turn to for answers on this subject. Lone parent organisations? Do any helpful Mumsnetters have any advice/information on this? Many thanks.

Yes you would either have to get a letter of him or get him to come with you to do it, think long and hard about doing it cause once his name is on the birth certificate he can then go for parental responsibility and can have a say in how you raise your child, do you really want him to have a say in things if your daughter has never met him ?

Tinkerbel6 thanks for your advice and I shall have a good think about it.

I re registered my D's birth when we needed a full copy of her birth certificate for her own passport. Fathers details weren't on the original so he agreed to come to the registry office and sign for her. She was 11 at the time so I didnt see any harm, there may even be benefits in the future.

I just didn't want her to have a full certificate with fathers name stricked through when she knew him.

If he is paying maintenance then you should be able to trace his address and I think a letter will suffice.

ask the csa they will contact him for ou surely. i read in paper(dont know how true it is)that the law has chANGED that all people now have to include father in their birth certs as there are some people who dont name them for some more money dfrom the social. anyway they wana make relationships with children and their fathers better therefore will be interviewed and asked to tell or be fined(unless baby was concieved into violence or rape). but i'm not sure how true like i said i read it
