Changing child's surname

Hey

I wonder if anyone could help or give me some advice. I have a 5 year old with my ex partner (who we have no contact with and have not seen in 2 years) she unfortunately has his surname on the birth certificate. I have been thinking lately that I really want her to have my surname but unsure of what to do and where to start?
Does anybody have any advice on where to start and what I would need to do to get the ball rolling on this?

Also would my daughter's dad have the right to contest although he hasn't had contact in 2 years?

Any advice or help is much appreciated.

Thanks Smile

Hi , I wanted to do this with my now 25 year old. I didn’t do it because it would have involved my ex being found , and I didn’t want him demanding contact with a child he had abandoned.

You'd have to ask him. If he says no you would need to apply to court and make your case. You'd probably get double barrelled quite easily.

Yes he would and they are unlikely to make a full name change you will probably get double barrelled being absent isn't a good enough reason (in contact) sorry to say. And yes it could prompt contact as they will contact him.
