When my ex removed hers and made a point of wearing a big flashy one as a replacement, doing her best to make sure I noticed.

mummyfantastico · 28/01/2008 16:51

After about a week I noticed he'd left his behind, so I took mine off and put them together, waiting for the day we'd put them back on together
Then after another couple of weeks I found out he'd been cheating for months, so I chucked them in the bin just before the bin men came

brightwell · 28/01/2008 18:42

7 years before we split up, I knew then it wasn't a happy marriage, the ring went in the bin.

allgonebellyup · 28/01/2008 19:07

a few months before we split, i think i did it subconsciously really, i claimed i didnt want the whole world to know my personal life, eg to know i was married.

my friends thought it odd at the time but they obviously knew better than me!

missingtheaction · 28/01/2008 19:08

about 3 months after I said i wanted a divorce. felt completely naked, had never been off since he put it there on our wedding day

jellyjelly · 28/01/2008 19:32

Teh moment i found out he had cheated. Still got it. He took his off about a week later.

ZippiBabes · 28/01/2008 19:36

years and years before i left him..maybe i was pregnant idont remember but prob about 10 or 11 years before

Catnkids · 28/01/2008 21:37

As soon as I found out about his affair. Took the wedding ring, eternity ring and engagement rings off and put them in my jewellery box and they'll stay there for my daughter when she's older. She can melt them down and make something nice out of them!!

PurpleOne · 28/01/2008 22:14

As soon as I left the marital home, was at my parents house by the beach. Took ring off and hurled it into the North Sea

From ex dh asking for a divorce to me and dd's moving out....hm all of 2 weeks!

Nighbynight · 28/01/2008 22:15

After being long divorced and starting a similar thread on mn, and someone pointed out that you cant pull if you're still wearing a ring.

bethoo · 28/01/2008 22:19

i found that wearing a ring did not put men off! i took mine off soon after as i am not a jewellry person and he stopped wearing his so i thought why should i? iliked the way my mums friend did not wear hers as she referred to them as 'slave bands'!!

singledadofthree · 28/01/2008 22:46

one saturday morning when my ex (tho not at the time) came wandering home after a friday night out. couldnt be bothered saying where she'd been, just laughed and said she slept at a 'friends'.

redpyjamas · 28/01/2008 23:48

When I was still with my abusive dh, I used to sometimes take it off and daydream that I was free of him. That was when I still thought I would never be free and safe ever again.

Thankfully I'm really free of him now. I remember having a shower at a friend's house about 2 months after I left, and I just suddenly thought to take ring off. Left it on her wondow ledge, where it went all coloured. Looked like a sort of rust, though obviously wasn't. She gave it back to me years later, and I have no idea where I put it.

lou33 · 28/01/2008 23:50

about 2 weeks after i got him to leave

massiveNEWpantsface · 29/01/2008 00:46

I took mine off the night we had a chat about our 'little break'. I asked him if he wouldn't see the OW while we were on a break to decide how he felt about me (his request - oh stupid, niave me!)
He said he couldn't not see her! I said BYE BYE!! and took my ring off...
moments later I noticed he had already done the same thing..

alipiggie · 29/01/2008 01:33

On the stroke of midnight January 1 2008. It was a very empowering experience. Still married to him, but seeing as he took his off nearly two years ago, thought it was about time. Finger feels incredibly naked though

mummyfantastico · 29/01/2008 11:50

Anyone else fiddle with theirs then realise it's not there anymore?

idontcarewhoreadsthis · 29/01/2008 14:35

Sorry for taking so long coming back.
We are not yet divorced but he has already taken his off (well took it off and hurled it somewhere behind the sofa). I was thinking of waiting til the d is granted then getting myself a 'divorcee' ring for that finger. Not too sure why. Actually, I'm not sure I'll be able to get it off it's been there that long!

Took mine off in October when I told him I wanted to move out. He 'lost' his about a year after we got married.

still married but starting divorce.

Pinkchampagne · 29/01/2008 16:04

I stopped wearing mine just before we moved into separate houses...infact it fell in one of the removal boxes!
Kept trying to take it off before, but my finger felt strange without it.
Ex H took a lot longer to remove his.

Scramble · 29/01/2008 22:24

I took it off straight away when I found out he had another woman.

Then I put it back on that week to show him that I wanyted to sort things out and try again (what a fanny).

Then after about a month I took it off and put it away for DD to have in the future. Thats when I decided it was over and I was going to make a new start for myself.

I was still fiddling and remembering it wasn't there for a while, but not now (5 months on). It all positive now!!!!

MeMySonAndI · 30/01/2008 21:01

I took mine off when I realised he was no longer putting much energy into the marriage, he kept his on until the very last day when he moved out.

Sometimes I can't help it to feel sorry for him , although someway, I supose, he just forgot he was wearing it until it got stuck in one of the boxes on moving out day

littlewoman · 01/02/2008 00:58

The minute I threw the bastard out

idontcarewhoreadsthis · 01/02/2008 20:13

Ha! Just tried it and my finger looked strangely deformed without them. Put them back on. Will have to try again another day.

Took mine off a few weeks ago. We are not a couple anymore, but he refuses to move out. I consider ive been a lone parent for the last 9 years. H is only here a couple of nights a week thank God. Its much easier only having 2 children rather than 3.
