I've had a letter to say the joint child tax credits claim we had has an overpayment of just over £1000

I've tried to call them but it's taking forever. Does anyone know if we just need to split it? So hmrc contact us both to pay half each? I can pay half but I don't want to pay anymore than that.

How does it work when you have split up?

I am claiming UC now as a single parent x

I had one of these a few months ago. They also wrote to my ex and our individual letters told us the amount we needed to pay each I think. I'm also on universal credit so mine was just deducted from the payments.

Ahh ok thank you. I would rather just pay mine off instead of it being deducted but that's fine. I just wanted to check I wasn't liable for all of it.

I remember being confused about mine at first as well but I think there was a bit towards the end saying ex had been written to separately etc
