Evening, I have covid as of today and am slowly getting more ill. Dc is 3 and very active. His dad won't help as I'm ill and he dosnt wnat to catch it/isn't helpful.
I have a high fever and can't sleep. Today trying to keep toddler entertained while feeling like death has had me on my knees.
Any tops tips for surviving illness? I've tried endless paw patrol b ut he gets bored.

Gosh so sorry to read this. We have recently gone down with it and had what is calm pretty severe symptoms too- was very tough entertaining our sick child between us at times. But doable.
For yourself I'd recommend gallons of orange juice- on some days this was literally my only source of energy and somehow helped with the horrible night sweats/shivering.
Soup and similar to keep going. Stay hydrated .
Lemsip max 3 x a day, it didn't get rid of the headaches but it did help dull it slightly .
Oximeter from Amazon to keep a check on yourself.
For your little one I guess Paw patrol gets a bit repetitive- do you have any shape sorters/jigsaws/crayons and colouring books/Duplo?
Nursery rhymes via YouTube?
Make a den with sheets and his favourite toys?
Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Little Baby Bum. Ours used to watch it on holiday whilst me and dh were trying to get ready to go out. It is even vaguely educational.

We did forts today and baked a ping cake eg microwave sponge but I'm flat out tierd after each tiny thing I do with him.
Tried colouring but again 30 seconds.
I think I'll try n do 3 small non TV things to brake up day but may resort back to cebbies.
Thanks for orange juice tips.

PumpkinsAndCats · 23/09/2021 23:12

I just lie on the sofa when I’m ill and do bare minimum, my ex has never helped when I’ve been ill anyway as he isn’t involved through choice. Just do the bare minimum to get through

Drivingish · 23/09/2021 23:14

When you say his dad won't help, is he an adequate parent, ie would you have any concerns about DC going to his dad for a while? Is his dad absolutely refusing or just not very keen and obviously you're not up to arguing at the min?

You sound really ill and there's no reason why he shouldn't care for his own child, even with the health risk. If it was me I'd be flatly telling him I need help and that if it's not him it'll have to be social services then let him decide.

Pleaseaddcaffine · 23/09/2021 23:19

I asked he refused as he refused as was worried about getting sick and self employed. I honestly was so irritated I just gave up, if he won't help I won't make him.
He dosnt have him overnight as housing isn't suitable and current has him when I'm not ill afte nursery or 3 hours x2 days until bedtime. But he won't do that.

Get DC to run on the spot/jump up and down - have a mini work out, set up a mini basic obstacle course, a bit of crayoning, some duplo and loads of tv.

Feel better soon.

Pleaseaddcaffine · 23/09/2021 23:21

Yeah tiring him out is the key. We watered the garden which was painful but got him running about a bit.
Dancing he enjoys... Could put on the hell of Mr tumble or similar

You can’t force someone to have the kid don’t bother with that and don’t threaten to contact social services if things aren’t good between you he could use that to say you aren’t coping, plenty of single parents get sick and have no one to help, unfortunately it’s one of the down sides of being a single parent

i feel you OP, i did a week with a bad sickness bug (probably covid = just before testing) and a crazy toddler

water cans outside? plonk yourself down with a brew. Get tot in waterproof overall, and let them pour water from one cup to another etc
gets you fresh air and they love that!
sand pit?

inside, set an obstacle course, let him run round it, watching from the sofa

do not feel bad about the 1000 hours of paw patrol for a few days! needs must!

Pleaseaddcaffine · 25/09/2021 06:42

Thanks I found old oasis from Christmas so let him make flower arengmnets. He loved it and I was knackered from just cutting some green bits n sunflowers

Today we are getting him a pcr test as he's now got a cough. Fingers crossed he dosnt get it too

Get a friend to bring you some shopping and leave it at the door. Get some boxes/bottles of juice for DC can open self.
Bottles of water/juice for you
Crackers/oatcakes/rice cakes/
Bread sticks (packs kid can help self to.
Fruit that can be just eaten safely(not grapes,)/minpacks raisins
Mug shots or cous cous packets for you (just add boiling water)

Some ready cooked rice packets and tins of prepped eg curry that you can both eat plus tins of carrots peas or sweetcorn to add to the curry.
Baked beans
Ie food you can prep easily.

Preserve your energy.

I had a lurgy back last march and had some time when I just needed to sit and concentrate on breathing as more was too much effort.

Pleaseaddcaffine · 25/09/2021 11:44

Thank you. I've tied to hang out washing... It was an error. So back on sofa. Ds is being really good considering that he dosnt really understand.
