Changing child’s surname?

I know you can change a child’s surname by deed poll without the other parents permission but it won’t be accepted by the passport office, has anyone done this?? Daughter is 10, don’t know whether to do it now or wait till she’s 16

Do you not have contact with her father? Would he not agree? Alternative is to go through the court for a decision if doing it before age 16

Oh no he would never ever agree, despite no contact. When I asked when she was a baby he refused. I heard courts would not agree to removing a whole surname only double barrelling, as apparently the courts would say that a child should always have a connection to their father (absent or not) was told this by a solicitor
