Bedtime lack of routine

So my son needs me to get into bed beside him in order for him to get to sleep. He is 5. Problem is I fall asleep for the night too. So what had been happening is that I try to get a lot of what I have to do done before I take him up to bed at 9.... with the result that this pushes his bedtime later. I know that's late but that's the norm. I also get up early to make lunches, order groceries, manage finances, organise online returns etc. I don't feel I get much quality time with him as it's 6pm by the time I pick him up and after I've made the dinner I like to surf the net for 20minutes. I think I need to stick to the 9 o'clock bedtime and absolutely no later and not do my stuff beforehand and then either get up again after he's fallen asleep and do mine and the household stuff or get up a bit earlier still. Any advice? No criticism please, delicate times 👍

You said it yourself...9 is very late to be putting him to bed. Mine both used to play me like this so I do understand....I used to hate that feeling of accidentally falling asleep and not having any evening/grown up time to myself.

I would start putting him to bed earlier after a bath....and I would tell him clearly "No Mummy in bed with you but you can have an audio story" and I'd put some audio stories on for him to listen to,.

Don't waver....just say no. It IS hard...watch Super Nanny...she manages to fix it. You have to keep making them get back in bed....and not give in.

Thank you Fortunesfav. I'm hoping that I'll get the bedtime routine sorted out while different/ less school pressures due to Corona
