how to stop housing benefit?

Hi all,

I'm self-employed but as a single parent receive a small amount of housing benefit. I'm hoping to come off this entirely by January but wondered what I need to do.

I know it sounds like a silly question, but would sending them a letter just saying that I would like to cancel my claim be enough? Would they need to see anything from me or want reasons why?

Thanks

If it's because of an increase in earnings that would make you no longer eligible, you would need to declare your change in circumstance and they would work out your new entitlement, which may be nothing. If you're still entitled though, why would you not claim it?

Thanks. I definitely won’t be eligible as my earnings are set to increase way past the threshold, so just wondered if it’s a case of simply telling them that I’d like to stop my claim, rather than go through the rigmarole of sending off information/statements to be told something I already know if that makes sense.

I’m a Hb assessor.

A letter stating I would like my claim cancelling for X date due to an increase in my earnings is perfectly fine.

*from X date 😁

I would send the letter/email first and give a brief description of why you would like it to be cancelled. They may then ask for more information or may just cancel it going forwards.
Could be worth contacting the team and finding out about how long their processing time is and see if they could suspend the claim until it is looked at to prevent any overpayment in the interrim

Ah, perfect thank you so much!
