When my ex moves out (over the weekend - we won't be about) what do I tell my 4 1/2 year old intelligent son should he ask (his dad hasn't been interested / done things with us for months and barely asks after him/speaks to him)? We have previously discussed why nana and Grampy don't live together but with other people (I said they didn't like living together anymore)! What are your experiences?
Thanks
P.s please move if in wrong topic!

Afraid I've no first hand experience as have been single since day 1 but I'd be tempted to just go with facts without emotions- so 'daddy has gone to live in a different house now but he's going to miss you lots and you can phone him/see him xxxxx' (depending on what you've arranged?).

Sorry I can't be more help, good luck xxx

My DS was 10 months old when we moved out so I didn't actually tell him..

Ashe has got older I have told him that I thought we would be happier not living with daddy ( we went to a refuge) ..

I would keep it simple..Daddy is going to live in a different house but still loves you and will see you..... From my experience it is important that the child knows it is nothing they have done.

The key things to remember are that dcs are spectacularly resilient and that as long as he has you, your dc will be fine.
I split from ex when dc was 3. I made sure he saw his daddy every Sunday and oddly he sees more of him because ex knows he had to make an effort.
Get into a routine asap and just say mummy and daddy have decided to see if they are happier living in different houses
