Direct offer of housing from Council

We have just got custody of my husband's children from an ex and as they are coming out of foster care to us ( I already have a son ) we need bigger accommodation. The council say that when a "suitable" property is available we will be made a "direct" offer and that we would have to be "open-minded" about what it was ? I gather we will have to take it no matter what , but what are direct offer flats like ? anyone got any experience of this . We are grateful, but don't want to move into anywhere that needs a lot of work which would be expensive .

From a quick google, a direct offer is when the council find you suitable sized accommodation, rather than you bidding on properties.
You'll need to ask your council how many offers you would get.
Unfortunately, with social housing, you don't have a huge choice in the decor.
