I feel sad. Christmas...

Nothing of note really - just to say I feel a bit sad. My son is two - I've always been a single Mum - since pregnancy. But this year I feel like he is starting to understand about Christmas and families.

It's just going to be me and him. It makes me feel lonely! I want a big family Christmas one day and to have to cook for lots of people and worry about stockings and shopping and wrapping and you know...

Okay - stopped feeling sorry feeling sorry for myself now! ;)

Please try not to feel sad. I am the only child of a single mum and I cherish the memories of our wonderful Christmases together, she made them so magical.

Start your own Christmas traditions, just the two of you. Mum used to let me get up ridiculously early on Christmas morning, and we'd tear through the presents together, then take a load of chocolate up to her bed, snuggle up and eat it then go back to sleep. No pressure on her to get up and start preparing a massive Christmas dinner because there was only us to please!

Later on we'd pull our little two seater Chesterfield up to the fire and curl up and watch festive telly together. Honestly, I wouldn't swap those memories for any number of big traditional Christmases.

Aw don't be sad! my mum was a single parent but Christmas as a child for me was chaotic, as there was her, us 3 kids, 2 grandparents, occasionally an aunt and cousins thrown in... I had fun but it was all a bit fighty, everyone wanting a bit of attention. There was a lot of waiting around for people (this still happens...), a lot of fighting over the remote, etc so although it is nice family time there is a lot of sighing and bickering.

Your family may grow in the future but in the meantime you can relish the special time together. Go for a Christmas walk, watch nice films, it will be lovely

Like the OP, I am a single mum to a 2 year old DS so it's great to read stuff like that

I know how you feel my ds is 5 and this is the 1st xmas me and his dad have been separated for...
I was dreading it

But my cousin has offered to stay xmas eve night so I'm feeling a bit better but I feel so guilty as last year we were all together.... (I asked ex to come xmas morning to watch ds open presents but he say he doesn't want to get up at 6 am )

I am a single mum.. This will be our 6th christmas just me and DS.. I look forward to it.

We have a roast dinner, not turkey, we have gingerbread house for breakfast that we make every christmas eve. we spend the day watching TV , playing games. Real quality times. We watch the queens speech.

When they are tiny it is lovely that the little ones get to play with all there toys to go visitng here or there.

i have done xmas lunch for 10 years as i single mum but with at least one visitor.

this year just me and dd
