A dear friend and her DH are separating, he refuses to leave family home, (so she is leaving this week). He isn't letting her take any furniture or even kitchen stuff (which they have more than enough of). I was just wondering if you lovely people have any good websites that can help in her terms of her rights and sorting out benefits, (he is unemployed and refuses to claim unemployment benefit, his parents are propping him up). All advice greatly appreciated.

Turn2us.org.uk is pretty good with regards to what benefits she may be entitled to. Also if she's strapped for things for her new home then a good source would be her local facebook or freecycle groups.

I'd strongly recommend she sees a solicitor before she does anything like moving out. I moved out and I hugely regret it.

Very true. A solicitor's advice beats anyone's on an internet forum. I only mentioned freecycle and facebook sites because OP had said she was leaving this week and is being stopped from taking things - so I understood it as she had somewhere else to go as she wanted these things. Which by rights are just as equally hers :)
