Hi, I'm new to benefits.
Separated about 2 + months ago with 3 kids under 5.
I started receiving income support quite quickly.
I got a letter a week or so ago saying I needed to attend a lone parents session on Tuesday.
Anyway, we have moved about 31/2 hours away and my h has been driving down to see kids every other weekend.
I had planned to come down for the weekend last and get my car fixed by a neighbour up here. Anyway, the parts didn't arrive in time, so have been stuck here without a car. I'm worried I won't get back for Tuesday now just because of the bleeding car. Its all a big mess, anyway....

I will just have to ring and explain but will they be really arsey about it?
Are they going to start reconsidering my income support?
Really worried as it's the only benefit I am getting atom (still waiting about tax credits etc which is taking forever)

How should I manage it?
Thanks in advance

Ps, it's a group session for lone parents to consider my working options and future?
I have an 8 month old,2 and 4 year old.

All you can do is ring and explain. Tbh I'm surprised you have to attend with an 8 month old. When I was receiving income support you didn't have to go to the job centre while you had an under one. And certainly never for a group meeting.

It might not be a compulsory one. Ring and check. When my dd was under 1, any group lone parent sessions were voluntary and didn't affect benefits. The only ones I have to attend with an under 5 are the ones where you meet one on one with your advisor for a chat type thing and you can take your child.

Sloane and Sienna, I'm sure they told me that on the phone, but thought maybe this was different being a group meeting or something.

I'm 99% sure that these group things are more of a voluntary job fair type thing. Don't worry and give them a call to check tomorrow :)
