The best bits about being a single parent...

I have just tidied my whole house, it still needs LOTS of work because I lived with a pig for years who destroyed my confidence and my oomphf but it is getting there.

I am feeling very blessed today, mostly because

  • I never EVER have to speak to or acknowledge his mother again
  • I am in complete control of what the kids and I eat, no more shortcuts so he can buy beer or whatever
  • I don't have to answer to anyone about any of the things I am doing
  • There is far, far less washing and after today all of it (including bedding) is done and I won't end up finding his dirty boxers on the floor tomorrow morning as just a classic example of him not giving a shit.

I really think that I am well cut out for this single parent status. I feel so empowered by it and I know times are going to get hard but I am proud to be doing it alone and glad that he is out of my life.

Please share the best bits for you of being single!

Not having to listen to him chatting with his friends over headset on the x-box and laughing at himself Beavis and Butthead style!

I'm 23 and have a 12month DS who is my whole fucking world!! Haha :D When not so close friends/family ask if my DS father has seen him recently and I give the expected answer of a simple "no" they seem to give me some sort of sympathy "poor you and poor baby" look which I HATE!! I am a proud, hard-working single parent!! I love that my child just looks at me like I'm his only world, that he stops crying when I hold him, that he has my last name, the certain games/songs/books he only enjoys with me I could literally go on and on... Apologies for the silly rant but single parents are awesome and should be given more credit as we're doing an amazing job in raising our little ones and not so little ones :) Wine Thanks Wine Thanks xxx

Yes yes to not walking on egg shells! And how is it my card no longer gets declined at the supermarket despite no longer having two wages!

Yep, funny that!

ICanHearYou · 16/06/2014 20:58

Yes I am able to plan and buy things for the children much more now. For some reason life is a LOT cheaper without him around.

Being incredibly close to my teenage son and seeing him grow into a caring, well adjusted in touch with his emotions man!

Knowing that I raised him to care about people and to be respectful of others.

Friends coming to visit anytime and open house for DS's friends to come and play - he was never allowed a trampoline when his dad was here.

Loving the relaxed atmosphere in the house with no arguments and no stress. We laugh so much together and enjoy each other's company

Know thing that when people say 'he really is a credit to you' that he is!

yy, to things being cheaper. XP drank too much at the pub a few nights a week and liked junk food. When that stopped coming out of the household finances I had a lot more left over for nice stuff.

Just got ds's first school report. Teachers comments included 'a joy to teach', 'extremely polite and helpful' and 'a lovely boy'. Doing great academically too.
I am one proud mama today and glad all my hard work is paying off. Smile
