What do you do on mothers day ? And do you get any presants ? I feel a bit envious sometimes on mothers day when you hear of other mums getting breakfast in bed or even what I would call a realy big treat .... A lie in. For me its just a normal day.

Yes, I get presents. I think my younger two have badgered their dad to buy something for me (because, to be fair, I still buy father's day presents for him from them), my eldest is making me a meal on friday when I go down to see her and I'm not sure if my other one will send a text or a card (he's miles away at uni). I may also get breakfast in bed and a lie-in, I may not, depends how nice my kids are being. But my youngest is 10 now, so they are not littlies.

If you've got no-one to do something nice for you, do it yourself. Buy yourself a bottle, a box of chocolates or whatever. Your kids will grow and hopefully start noticing mother's day. I thin it's okay to be a bit wistful that you've no partner sorting it out. Life sucks sometimes xx

This is my first year as a lone parent, I won't be getting breakfast in bed or presents, my friend is in the same position as me so we have arranged to have a huge Sunday lunch together, my dc and I are going round with a joint of meat, yummy pudding and some extra chairs and plates, my friend is doing the rest.

Could you do something similar?

Its my birthday too on sunday. My dd said shes made me a card in school (shes only 4 bless her) so ive told her we can have a nice takeout and watch a dvd. Have a pamper girly night. Should cheer me up.

Look at it in a different way - it's a day when the shops encourage people to spend in order to show someone they care (which is daft if you think about it). You're loved and wanted by your children every day, not just one day a year because society says it should be that day. Every cuddle and kiss is a blessing, it's given because they want you to have it and not because a shop has sold it to them. I'd say a kiss and a cuddle is worth far more than a card or flowers or breakfast in bed, there's far more love behind it.

We don't do Mother's Day here. I get spoilt every day so we'd rather not bother then line the pockets of Hallmark.

Probably wont get anything unless she has made anything at school. Just another day to me where I enjoy time with her.x

Its just a normal day for me too so dont worry, i wrk sundays in a pub restaurant sunday will be 1 of the busiest days of the year my youngest 3s dad is really good even though we arent together he still spoils me but my eldest daughter her dad has never botherd when she was tiny my mum used to get me a gift i was made up when she started making cards etc at school

Me and my sister (and DS I supposed!) are taking my mum out for afternoon tea. It should be a lovely afternoon!
DS has hinted that he's making me something at school - that's enough for me. I always tell him that all I want is a cuddle, I mean it too (though a handmade card would be lovely too..)

Takeaway and movie sounds very good! Can you have a lie in with your DD? At the weekends, I let DS play on my ipod in my bed while I doze for a bit. It's not quite the same as pre-DS lie-ins but at least I'm not dragging myself out of bed at 7am!
