This evening as I mucked out the kitten's school bag (she's 10) I came across her English book and I snuck a peek. Last week she had been asked to write a poem and I had to share with you what I found.
For my Mum
These are the gifts
That I would if I could
Give to you
A pearl from the deepist darkest ocean
A golden shimmer of stardust
The last star in the sky
A creature from a myth
The first shimmer of summer
The last shiver of winter
The pride of Mandela
The dream of Luther King
The seventh ring of Saturn
The eight arch of a rainbow
A key to a palace in deepist darkest Russia
A fountain of water with healing powers
A key to a cheast of wonder
A room full of happiness and joy
And one last gift
A ray of hope in the darkest times
The last line is the real tear jerker as over the last 18 months we have been through some unholy shit and in particular the last three weeks. Recently I have had to fight like a mother lion to protect her and some of the days have been the hardest and darkest I have known.
Tonight I know it is all worthwhile.
